"Sorry, Wei."
He could only nod; there wasn't much else he could do, as he had no other choice.
The January winds swung and swirled roughly around Beijing; the sun was strong, but the coldness in the air could form a thought bubble around him every time he breathed.
Taking out his gloves from his coat jacket, Wei put them on and slipped on his beanie, as his ears were getting red. He could feel his eyes watering from the cold, and mentally cursed the people who had thrown him out; they couldn't have waited another two months for the spring to grace them?
This wasn't the first time he was left to fend for himself; Wei had already thought of plans A through Z, knowing he wouldn't be comfortable for too long.
Once again, he found himself with his bag in hand, hoping to find a place to draw out his thoughts.
He wasn't much for creativity, and if someone had asked him what he was doing, he would lie and say he was writing a paper. Drawing was more of a stress reliever he took up as a hobby.
Before being asked to leave from the fifth location, Wei had his own quiet space in an art studio. But, with his luck, he always found the rooms that were close to being shut down, or torn down.
A huffed sound sounded from Wei's throat, as he unlocked his phone, and called Mina.
"I heard, babe. You okay?" Mina picked up, getting to the point.
"I will be. I'm gonna go sit by the cafe by the house, what are you up to?" Wei questioned, turning on his Bluetooth headphones, and placing his phone in his pocket.
"I'm looking for your next position," she responded, which had the boy raise his brow to no one in particular.
"I thought we agreed I like the shoe store, Nana?" Wei knew he sounded childish, whining in reply to his friend's comment, but as he walked towards his motorcycle, he didn't seem to care.
Placing his helmet on, he heard her chuckle before countering with, "Yes, but babe, they've been promising to promote you for over a year now, and I'm sick of you working there."
"I literally have no experience in anything but shoe sales and waiting tables." Wei replied, his hand turning his key to start the engine.
"Well, maybe you can sleep your way to the top."
"Why is that even a suggestion?" he laughed in reply to her proposal.
"Because sex is the solution to everything in life, Wei," Mina replied, as-a-matter-of-factly.
"It's also the root to diseases, unwanted children, and you know, jail when seducing a boss," Wei laughed, driving along the highway, towards his shared apartment with Mina to leave his bike, and walk to the cafe.
"Dude, don't go there when you have at least four or five one night stands a week," she scoffed, earning her a laugh from the brown eyed boy.
"If we're counting, you beat me last month. You reached twenty five, while I only got to twenty one," Mina's laugh was contagious, so Wei had only responded to hear it.
The two finished their playful arguing when he had reached their place, to park his bike. It took several minutes, but he finally got his hot coffee, while being seated at a corner table by a window.
His hand moved on its own, sketching what he could see out the window. A wooden bench was being occupied by a small boy and an older lady eating ice cream in the winter. Shaking his head in astonishment, Wei took in the small vicinity he had entered.
