Susie was moaning as Alistair drank from her neck.
"Get away from her!" I demanded in a thankfully strong voice. I didn't have a plan, drunk me had decided I needed to intervene but hadn't gotten as far as making a plan of what I would do exactly to stop the vampire.
Alistair released Susie's neck and turned to face me. Blood was smeared on his lips. He licked them as Susie fell to the ground, unconscious. His eyes were black and his fangs visible. I was cold to the bone, I would never get used to seeing these monsters in human form.
"Here's the refreshment I've been dying to try all evening!" Alistair said laughing as he approached. Ok. Abort!
I tried to run back through the door but he had me pinned against the wall before I could get three steps.
My drunk head spun at the lightning fast movement. This was not good."You smell so good," Alistair said, breathing in deeply at my neck. I tried to concentrate and do some sort of protection spell but my heart was hammering in my ears and I felt disconnected from my body, no doubt thanks to the amount of drinks I'd had.
"Get off me-" I exclaimed. My desperation rose as I tried to concentrate harder and call on one of the elements like I had done before. But it was no use, my magic was not working.
"Shh, don't fight me, if you just relax you might even enjoy it." Alistair whispered against my neck, I could feel his sharp teeth trailing along my artery.
"Like hell! Get off me-" I said, struggling against him. Of course I knew it was futile. I had not forgotten how strong the Children of the Night were.
Goddess please help me. I prayed as I closed my eyes, preparing for the pain I knew I would feel when he bit into my flesh.
Then, there was a bang as the back door flew open, the place were my tattoo was, prickled;
"Let her go, Alistair" A voice growled. I opened my eyes to see Talon standing behind Alistair, his eyes now also black.
Alistair growled in return and drew back so our noses were almost touching-
"We could share?" he said as his finger caressed my face."I said back off. She's mine." Talon growled again, this time there was something in the air that made his warning a threat, there was power behind it, a command.
Alistair stepped back at once, unpinning me from the wall.Even drunk me recognised an opening-it was time to get the hell out of there. I stumbled as I ran back through the door into the bar, not daring to look at Talon as I ran past him. I didn't take a breath until I was safe back in the crowded bar.
I think I was done doing stupid things for one night.
I grabbed Ava and called an Uber. We were back at hers within the next 30 minutes. I breathed in a deep sigh of relief as I closed her front door, locking it.
"Ok tell me what just happened?" Ava said, freaked. I hadn't told her anything other than we needed to get home now. Her drunk self had let me drag her out of there pronto.
"Can I explain tomorrow?" I said holding my now aching head. I was definitely starting to sober up. She looked concerned but also exhausted so she agreed, starting to sober up too.
Within 10 minutes she had pj's on and was in bed. She had passed out the minute her head hit her pillow. I smiled at her quietly snoring.
Goddess that was too close tonight. Stupid Stupid Stupid. The minute you saw vampires you should have left. What if something had happened to Ava? I would never forgive myself.
