Two weeks passed. I continued training with Talon and met up with my coven every week, unbeknownst I was spending an increasing amount of time with a vampire.
Everything seemed to have quietened down. There was no news of attacks from the Children of the Night on witches and I hadn't heard anything from the Witches' Council. Apparently they were away on business and were unreachable, Bridget had said. I was starting to get antsy, the more the weeks went by, it was becoming less and less likely Morgan would still be alive.
In my own time I would try simple elemental spells but they weren't going so well. Without proper training or anyone's help, I could barely manage to stir the wind around me.
I had no idea how I was going to save Morgan. Basic protection spells weren't really gonna cut it sneaking back into the camp. That, and, I had no idea where the camp was. I couldn't ask Talon without raising suspicion. And I couldn't ask him to go back there with me to try and help save another witch, he had almost died there. I couldn't ask him to risk his life for me. Again.
I'd come to enjoy Talon's company and his teasing as well as Alistair's. It was strange keeping our friendship a secret from Ava, I told her everything and now I was lying to her on a daily basis.
I would go to Talon & Alistair's before or after work so I always had an excuse for being out and no reason to worry Ava. I had essentially moved into Ava's house, as her housemate was still away on holiday. I loved living with her but it was getting really hard to lie to her.
Even Lucy at work had picked up that something was up.
"Have you met someone?" She teased one morning at work whilst we both made coffees.
I had blushed and denied it;
"No, it's not like that. We're just friends" I assured as I frothed the milk, accidentally letting it get too hot. Lucy raised her eyebrows, smiling."You sure about that?" She prompted, smirking at the extra hot milk I'd frothed. I ignored her and finished making the coffee.
"Soy caramel latte." I called out and the customer approached.
"Just be careful, it's hot." I warned, smiling apologetically. I turned to see Lucy smirking as she poured a coffee shot.I rolled my eyes and went to go clear tables. It was quiet now since first period had started ten minutes ago. We would have another rush in fifty minutes once the period finished. I cleared the dirty mugs and glasses and stacked them in the dishwasher.
"Let's say, I've -hypothetically- day dreamed about kissing this guy" I said turning to meet Luce's eager gaze. "It would never work out." I said pointedly.
"How do you know?" Luce countered sitting on the back bench, smiling.
"We can't be together. It's...not allowed." I said, already regretting bringing this up.
"And he doesn't like me like that I'm sure." I said quickly, brushing it off."Well, speaking from experience," Luce started, jumping off the bench to come drape her arm around my shoulders;
"Screw the rules." She grinned, poking her pierced tongue out at me. I laughed and knocked my hip against hers."My parents were mortified when I came out. They were in denial and tried everything to fix me." Luce said soberly.
"But the heart's going to love what it loves. Regardless of the rules." She finished knocking me back with her hip and going over to serve the customer that had arrived.It was Ellie, her girlfriend. Luce turned and sent me a mock look of pointed surprise and winked. I laughed and shook my head. I loved Luce's encouragement but I don't think the Witches' Council and Vampires would see eye to eye on the matter.
