Chapter 8

*Allie P.O.V.*

   I woke up the following morning and got ready for work. I put on my suit and shorts and a tank top over it. I then pulled my hair up into a ponytail and grabbed my lifeguard hat and my sunglasses, then headed downstairs. "So how was your date last night," Cooter asked from the corner of the kitchen. I jumped and turned to face him. "Jeez Cooter! Don't scare me like that," I said trying to calm my racing heart. "Answer the question," he said taking a sip of his coffee. "It wasn't a date," I lied. "Don't lie to me. You dressed up and put on perfume," he said looking at me sternly. "Fine it was a date," I gave in. "And how did it go," he asked. "It went pretty smoothly. A lot better than my first date with Wade did," I said grabbing an apple. "If he ever hurts you let me know and I'll take care of him," he said. "I think I'll be able to handle him myself," I said heading for the door. "Have fun at work," he called. "Don't I always," I responded.

   I arrived at work and grabbed a net to help Hayley clean the bugs and leaves out of the pool before we open. We opened up and I handled entry for a couple hours. "How many," I asked not looking up. "Three young adults and one child," a familiar voice said. "$25 please," I said ringing it up in the register. "Here you go," they said. I finally looked up to see who it was and was shocked. "Lemon! Magnolia," I said surprised. "About time you looked up," Lemon said. "And who are these two lovelies," I asked. "This is Zoey and this is mine and Magnolia's little half sister Scarlett," Lemon introduced. "Well hi there. My name is Allie. Short for Allison," I said. "Allie here is your half cousin," she said to Scarlett. "What are you guys doing so far from Bluebell," I asked. "Bluebell is in the middle of a heat wave and we don't have a pool in town. Besides we haven't seen you in forever," Lemon said. "Well enjoy your day at Hazzard county pool," I said putting the money in the register.

  They walked in and I was on register for a while longer, before Hayley came to give me my break. During my break I sat on the branch of the oak tree on the edge of the parking lot. I was eating my lunch when I saw the General Lee zoom by. I was chilling with my back to the trunk and my feet up on the branch when the General Lee zoomed into the parking lot. The boys climbed out, went to the fence and seemed to be looking for me. "I thought you said she was working today," Bo said. "That's what she told me," Luke said. "Man look over there. See those three women with that little girl," Bo said pointing in the direction of Lemon and Magnolia. "Yeah so," Luke said. "The one with the curly blonde hair is kinda hot," Bo said. "And too young for you,"I said from my vantage point. They turned around expecting me to be on the ground. "She's 14 Bo," I said standing on the branch. "Where are you at," Bo said a little scared. "Up here," I said. They looked up and I tossed my lunch box down, then proceeded to climb down. "What were you doing up there," Luke asked. "I was on my break," I responded hopping to the ground. "How do you know them," Bo asked. "The blondes are my cousins from a few towns over. And the brunette is one of their friends," I responded. "From Bluebell," Luke asked. "Yep. Did you need something," I asked picking up my stuff. "I wanted to talk to you," Luke said.

    Bo climbed back into the General and I turned to Luke. "Well then, step into my office," I said gesturing to the tree. We climbed up and I sat down straddling the branch, Luke straddled the branch and leaned back against the trunk. "What's up," I asked. "Last night was amazing and I was wondering if you wanted to go out again soon," he said. "Luke I had a great time too. The best time I've had in a long time," I said. "So would you want to do it again sometime," he asked again. "I'd love to Luke. How's Tuesday night sound," I said. "Sounds great," he said. He moved like he was going to start climb down, but I grabbed his hand stopping him. He stopped and looked at me. Then I did something that I never imagined I'd do for a while. I scooted closer, looked up at him and leaned closer. Then I pressed my lips to his. At first he was shocked then he wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me onto his lap. I ran my fingers through his hair and when we parted we panted for breath. He pecked my lips a couple more times, before we were interrupted by Bo honking the horn. "I better get back to work," I said before climbing off his lap and down the tree.

   Once he reached the bottom he climbed into the General and I waved goodbye. After they were out of sight I went back and clocked in. "Great you're back. You're giving James a break then you're on pool duty the rest of your shift," Jim said. I took off my shorts and shirt, then put them into my locker and went out to give James a break. The rest of the day went pretty smoothly and soon it was starting to get late. My shift was coming to an end and Lemon, Magnolia, Scarlett, and Zoey began to pack up their things. "Hey I've come to relieve you so you can get out of here," Gavin said from below. I climbed down and he climbed up, then I went and clocked out and put on my clothes. I walked out to the parking lot and Lemon and the others weren't far behind. "Hey you off already," Lemon asked. "Yeah," I said. "Hey how's your boyfriend Wade," Magnolia asked. "I thought that is Zoey's husband," Scarlett asked. "Umm actually, Wade and I broke up a while ago," I said. "Oh honey. I'm so sorry," Lemon said hugging me. "Thanks, but I'm actually ok. I've found someone better," I said. "What happened between you and Wade," Scarlett asked. "Well he umm. He cheated on me," I said. "Oh that's terrible hon," Zoey said. "It's ok though. I'm fine, I've moved on. In fact here comes him and his cousin," I said seeing the General Lee.

   "Lemon, Magnolia, Scarlett, Zoey. This is Luke and his cousin Bo. Luke, Bo. This is my cousins Lemon, Magnolia, and Scarlett, and their friend Zoey," I introduced.
