It had been a bit over a month. A month. Lan Zhan had broken.

He refused to eat, refused to sleep until the point of exhaustion where he passed out, and refused to leave his bed.

Lan Zhan had become weak and thin. His fair skin was paler than it ever had been and his lips were chapped, the edges turning white from his malnutrition. Lan Xichen's soul broke seeing his brother so... lifeless.

Having Wei Ying be his brought Lan Zhan's soul back to life after those harrowing sixteen years. The other had promised never to leave again yet... he was gone.

After a month, still no sign of Wei Ying nor were there answers for who took him or how they did it. However, news of the Nie sect leader disappearing on the exact same day had almost made its way to Gusu.

Lan Xichen was currently sitting on the edge of Wangji's bed, the unresponsive look on his brother's face brought him to tears, "Wangji..." He sobbed, bringing the younger into his arms.

The delicate silk of the Gusu robes that Lan Zhan was currently wearing did not hide his deforming muscles. In fact, after a month of eating barely anything his ribcage wasn't far from showing. Feeling his baby brother's spine almost ripping through his skin was not a feeling Lan Xichen enjoyed.

"Wangji... please eat..." He begged, Lan Zhan continued to stare off into the distance, leaning against the wall his brother had set him against.

Lan Xichen gripped his brother's hands, "Would Master Wei want you to suffer like this?" He asked, his breath hitching, "We'll find him Wangji... But-"

"I can't sense him." Lan Zhan interrupted, spilling a secret he'd been denying all month. Lan Xichen straightened, shocked that his brother had spoken for the first time in weeks.

"Wangji... he's-"

"I. can't. sense. him." Lan Zhan repeated, he didn't need his brother's positivity, "Wei Ying... Wei Ying's soul isn't... here." He finished, tears dripping down his cheeks.

Lan Xichen lay the younger down, the Lan sect leader was so scared... he knew his brother wouldn't live without Wei Ying again which is why he had to find him. He just had too.

As Lan Zhan cried, Lan Xichen stayed by his side to comfort him, "Wangji... if Wei Ying is dead then Wen Ning would've died too, but Sizhui still talks to him." He stated, running his hand through the younger's hair.

Lan Zhan sobbed silently, "Then... he's been weakened... hurt..." He mumbled, in a fit of sorrow, a desperate need for comfort, he jumped into his brother's arms.

Lan Xichen was surprised, yet held his brother close who began to cry harder. Despite the warmth from his brother's arms, Lan Zhan was still crying, he needed comfort, Wei's comfort.

Lan Zhan was shaking, he'd played inquiry until his fingers bled yet again. He'd searched until his legs gave out. He'd hoped until he couldn't feel anymore. Lan Zhan felt nothing but longing, grief, pain, wonder. Feelings he'd never wanted to feel again.

Lan Zhan tried to get out of bed but Lan Xichen stopped him, "Wangji, you need rest... trust us to find him... please?" He begged, gripping his brother's shrinking waist.

Lan Zhan sighed tearfully, "But I have to find him... he's suffering-"

"Wangji..." Lan Xichen called, holding his younger brother in place, "You need to rest, we will find him. I promise." He smiled, he pulled a piece of bread out of his robes and unfolded the cloth covering it, "And you need to eat... please Wangji."

Lan Zhan's tears wouldn't stop as his brother begged, "For me... please Wangji."

Giving in, Lan Zhan ate and then slept. His dreams were of Wei Ying, his soulmate, his other half, his... his future.
