The Abebe's Household

"AMARA GET UP HERE RIGHT NOW!"

I jumped at the sudden outburst that can be heard from 2 houses down. I yelled nervously, "I'll be up in a minute dad!". Biting my nails one by one, I quickly glanced back at my ghost mother but she was nowhere to be found.

"Mom?" I asked no one in particular. I sighed heavily, brushing back some strands of hair from my forehead and placed it in a messy bun. Forgetting to take a shower, my first instinct was to grab my phone and make my way up the basement stairs. Slowly but cautiously, I turned the doorknob and stepped out to hear loud chatter from who I suspect is my dad.

A gasp left my mouth but was quickly covered by my right hand. At the sight of my dad holding a knife in his hand behind the door, fear bubbled up in my chest and breathing uneven. I tiptoed on my tippy toes to catch a glimpse at who he was conversing with but sooner realizing I'm too short for this.

"Dad?" I asked while taking slow steps towards him. His head turned to the side and he gestured me to stand right next to him. Sensing his anger, I stayed quiet and glanced at the stranger only to see the boy from the other night who was cheering me on.

*Flashback*

To say that the teenagers were impressed was an understatement, as soon as one person claps the other followed along cheering her on.

"That.Was.Amazing, like I can't do what you just did, I might just break a bone" a brown skin boy with a low cut hairstyle laughed loudly.

*Flashback over*

Upon realizing that I was staring him down, he turned to me and waved, at that action, I did something that completely caught him off guard, I flinched away from him and hid behind my dad. Only because my dad started back getting aggressive again so it made me flinch anytime somebody does an action to which I feel like I'm going to get attacked. I'm always being reminded of what he does to me mentally and physically.

Normally I would never be this close to my dad but seeing other people this close to me, brings back my anxiety. Yes, I do have anxiety, from at the age of 3 till now I've suffered anxiety attacks and they only ever come back when I am close to other people.

He frowned, scratching the back of his neck, "Uhhh hey, I was just walking down the street when I saw all this mail that was on your lawn so I thought that you didn't notice any of them but I came to give it to you".

My dad's face was emotionless at this point, ready to shut the door in the young boy's face, he replied back grumpy, "I don't care about the mail, no one told you to bring them to me and I don't care if it's your choice, I'll be burning them anyways."

Shocked at his tone, the boy stayed quiet for a few seconds then found his confidence to look at the man's daughter before he shut the door and said, "My bad sir but with all due respect I couldn't help to notice your daughter, which by the way looks familiar" I gulped at his response, "No no I-I-I don't know you, I've never seen you before." I lied looking up at my father's face.

He huffed, "Amara get inside now" at this moment all I can think is 'oh shoot I'm busted'. Backing away from the door, I wrapped my arms protectively around my waist when I heard the door slam shut, shaking the house since it was not all that stable.

His footsteps coming too close for comfort and seeing his facial expression did not ease this situation. Grabbing the neck of my shirt again, I flinched back and turned my head to the side, not wanting to see his face. "What did he meant by that Amara...WHAT DOES HE MEAN!?" he screamed into the side of my face.

Already the tears fell down my cheeks, unable to hold them back anymore. Tempting to push him away from me, I know that I couldn't fight off his 5'7 figure. "Please" I pleaded, "I d-don't know him, I-I swear".

Something flickered in his eye then it quickly went away but I already saw it. "WHY ARE YOU LYING TO ME!" he yelled, "I'm only asking this once Amara... what does he mean and do not lie because you know what happens if I'm being lied too," he says more softly but anger still lingers in his voice.

Suddenly, thunder rumbling was heard from outside. He turned to look outside, hands still gripped onto my shirt, he grumbled, "Damn my clothes". Watching me in my eye he questioned, "I'm not done with you yet so stay put, when I get back I expect an answer you hear me?" he released me which made me fall onto the wooden floor. I nodded.

Going into his room and coming back out with a basket in hand, he walked into the back yard. The trembling still visible throughout my body, I stood on both feet and ran back into my room of sanctuary. Packing a bag fill with things I need for a long journey including snacks, a water bottle, clothes, phone charger, I think you already got my drift.

Where am I going you may ask? Well...I think its time for me to get out of this cage of a house and away from my dad. This is obviously not a life that I would like to come back too, I just wanna dance my heart off and he's stopping me from doing so.

So the best option is to run off into the world that would be filled with possible happiness and freedom.

Time: 12:45 am

On my way to the door, I heard him yell, "WHERE ARE YOU GOING AMARA, GET BACK HERE!" sprinting out the door before he could get a hand on me, I jumped from the stairs to the bottom and ran off into the darkness not knowing where I'm going.

After running for a few minutes, once I'm away from the house, I stopped and checked my surroundings, everything looked so unfamiliar to me. Breathing heavy, just realizing the air around me was freezing cold, still only wearing my workout clothes, it sends shivers from my upper body and made its way down to my bare legs.

Wrapping my arms around myself desperately trying to get warm even though I'm wearing a sweater. We don't have winter in Freeridge but rainy season is a thing and it gets extremely cold and windy before it starts to pour. I sighed, "I don't even know where I'm heading...that's it...I'm gonna get lost" sitting down on the floor beside a bench, I looked up and down when I did a double-take, squinting my eyes at a figure heading towards me.

I gasped, not knowing what to do I jammed into the corner trying to get away from the figure. "Hey, what are you doing out in the cold, it's one in the morning?" he said in a calm, soothing voice. At that, I looked up and saw.....

Oh damn..another one lol.

Who did Amara saw?
