*Sofia's POV*
I gazed out the window of our car as we got closer to the manor. It had been months, maybe even years, since we had both seen Mark. There had been a ahem, incident with Celine and Mark's marriage. It had included William and after the conterversy, to put it lighlty, William had gone with a new friend and Mark had isolated himself. It was difficult to hear what had happened after we had all been friends since childhood and up until our years of university. That was when we had met Y/N, a dear friend who wasn't exaclty the most talkative. However, despite their lack of talking, they had recenlty become the District Attourney of the city. Damien, being the soft soul he is, decided to help his friend.
"Sofia, darling?"
I flinched as Damien's brought me back. I realized I had been deep in thought, and had lost interest in the sight through the window.
"Yes?"
"Are you alright? You've been quiet for a while." he revealed, confusion and concern clousing his features.
"Yes, I'm arlight Damien," I responded as I turned my body and held his hand. "Nothing is wrong, I was just thinking about Mark and the others. Remember Y/N?"
"Why of course I remember Y/N, I see them quite often at the office. They work around there, after all."
"Oh right," clearing my throat. "I forgot."
He chuckled, but his expression turned thoughful once again. "Actually, I was also thinking about Mark. It's quite weird that he's inviting us to meet him all of a sudden. And to a poker night at that," he confessed. "Do you think this might be something else, something bigger?"
I gave him a funny look. "Like what? A haunted house?" I joked.
The coner of his lips twitched in amusement. "Not exactly, but that wouln't be so bad."
It was my turn to smile. "Sure. You would probably scare the ghosts though. With your scary face," I giggled when his mouth fell open in mock horror.
"How dare you offend me that way?" he gasped. "You have wounded me so!" He pretended to be injured and closed his eyes.
I snorted. "Who knew you could be so dramatic?"
"And you keep insulting me! Why?!"
"Becasue it's fun."
He sat up with a sigh. But his lips curled into a smirk. "It doesn't matter, I know you don't mean it. You would never agree to marry an ugly man. Quite the opposite, you have great taste in your men." He raised his eyebrows at me with a smug expression.
I rolled my eyes. Leave it to Mayor Damien to go from soap opera actress after finding out her husband talked to another woman to being the king of cockiness. But he wasn't wrong at all. Even if all three of the friends looked the same, and if Damien had a twin sister, he had caught my eye the most. His looks and his adorable personality had made me fall hard. I was still falling to this day.
"I could say the same thing to you. Well great taste in women. Just look at me," I boasted, striking a pose like a model, ruflfing my hair. "There's only one of me in this world, darling."
His whole body shook with laughter at my antics and I felt my face heat up. I almost never acted cocky, well at least not around others. But when I was with Damien and we weren't in the office, we both acted like 5 year olds. Nothing new there.
His laugh slowly melowed to a content smile as he once again held my hand in his. "I love you, Sofia," he murmered, a small blush coating his face. "And after this night, no matter what happens, poker or haunted houses, I will always love you."
