*Sofia's POV*
I skipped the last step of the stairs, jumping from the second to last step to the floor. I didn't want to make this any more dramatic than it already was, but I feared that if Damien and the Colonel met again they would have another argument, and this time Y/N would be caught in the middle of it instead of on the sidelines. They were already unsettled enough, I didn't want William making them more suspicious.
I didn't want to think that Mark's death had been caused by the Colonel, he couldn't do such a thing. But there were so many things that made him look suspicious. They had not been on good terms for years, his commentary when we found the body was missing, him not caring that Mark had been found dead, everything.
I also didn't know if Damien had figured out that Mark's body wasn't where it was supposed to be, or if Abe had said anything about his theory about where the body was. Because if Damien heard the word zombie, he would likely throw the detective out the window.
I walked briskly towards the door that led to the pool where I had last seen the trio, and bumbed staright into someone's chest.
"Sofia! Are you okay?"
I looked up to see my fiancé's concerned expression. "Yes, I'm fine. I was just in a hurry to find you."
"Why? Is there something wrong?"
"Not necessarily," I said, cringing. I had just tried to calm him down a while ago and now I had to upset him again. "It's just...Abe found that Mark's body is missing since a while ago and Y/n and the Colonel were talking for a while now."
Damien sucked in a breathe. "So William was with Y/N."
"Yes. I was following them when William said he wanted to talk to them-Don't look at me like that! I was worried for Y/N!" I exclaimed when Damien raised his eyebrows in amusement when I told him about my spying. "Y/N had been tense since the morning, and I wanted to make sure the Colonel did not do anything rash."
"I understand, and I did know that Mark's body was missing. The chef told me when I walked by the kitchen. I was hoping you hadn't found out, I don't want you stressing out any more."
I laughed. "I was thinking the same thing."
He smiled and wrapped his arms around me. "I just needed to talk to him about what is happening. But I'm sure you already know that, don't you?"
"Ha ha. Hilarious." I deadpanned.
He chuckled. It made me feel better that despite everything that was going on he was still able to joke around and laugh. But that didn't change the fact that we needed to talk to the others and solve this once and for all.
As if reading my mind, he started towards the pool once again. "I think we need to go see if William shows up again, and this time you will be with me, not on the balcony."
"Alright-wait...you knew all this time?!"
*****
As soon as we opened the glass door and stepped outside, we heard William's voice once again. Damien didn't waste any time as he sped up his pace and looked around the corner, where Y/N was alone.
"Colonel? Damn, I thought I heard him... no matter. Would you like to accompany us? There's something that I would very much like to discuss with you."
I looked around in confusion. Where was Wilford? I could swear that I had heard his voice when Damien had. But Y/N was looking just as confused as we were. "It's true. I had to tell Damien about how we think that William might have something to do with Mark's...death."
Damien nodded and offered me his arm. I took it and beckoned Y/N to follow us. We walked towards the house, taking small steps as Damien continued. "Now, Sofia told me you have been assisting our... Intrepid detective with his investigation, but... I have to bring some concerns of mine to the forefront," he said looking at Y/N with a concerned expression, like an older brother looking out for his younger sibling. "If we look at this situation logically, we can only assume that the killer who struck down our dear friend Mark was with us last night. And while I would stake my life on the innocence of the Colonel , my fiancé, or yourself, can we really say the same of the "beloved" detective? Or worse yet, may haps our counting skills aren't as good as we assume to be. And may haps... In the shadows of this manor, unseen to any of us, lay hidden... a murderer..."
Thunder clapped overhead and I jumped. It sounded impossible, but I had forgotten that lightning would strike everytime that we mentioned Mark's murder. Y/N looked around as well, until our attention was brougt to another comotion. It sounded like arguing. I groaned internally, Abe again.
But when I heard that it was our dear Colonel he was yelling at and a gunshot following their yelling, my whole body froze. I felt Damien freeze as well. With a single glance at each other, we sprinted to the house, fearing the worst.
I felt my heart drop to my feet when I saw William pointing a gun at Abe. They both looked fine, no injuries, but the sound we had heard earlier had definitely been a gunshot.
"William!" I screamed, moving towards the Colonel, but Damien held me back, afraid that the gun would point at me instead.
"Colonel," he said, his jaw clenched and his eyes narrowed. "Put the gun down. Now."
Y/N simply stood next to us. I moved towards them, not wanting them to be in the middle of this. But William and Abe ignored us, staring intently at each other instead.
"I don't know what you're playing at but you better lower your weapon, you murderer!"
Thunder sounded again, but we were all too stunned at his words to care.
"I bloody well won't, you're the one that assaulted me! For all I know, you could be the murderer!"
The chef appeared next to Benjamin, who looked ready to throw both the Colonel and Abe out the manor, no matter if they were guests. But all I could see and hear was the accusation made by both of my friends. Murderer.
"What the fu-OH!"
"Last chance, drop your weapon!" Abe yelled as he pointed his own gun at William. My whole body made another move to stop them, but this time Y/N held my arm tightly.
"Master's prized vase!" Benjamin yelled. Amidst all the chaos, one of the vases on display had been damaged, and Ben was not happy.
"Everyone, please! I know we're all on edge, but can't we resolve this amicably?" Damien said desperately. He was looking at William specifically, his eyes pleading at him to stop. My heart broke seeing him like this, but it seemed I was the only one who felt that way.
"On edge?! This PSYCHO tried to shoot me!" Abe screamed as he continued to hold his position.
"That's a bold-faced lie. I was merely doing some light target practice."
I rolled my eyes at William's defending statement. The butler seemed just as tired as I was. "Inside?!" he yelled, waving his duster in Will's face.
"Well, yes, I couldn't go on the ground now with that bloody chef in my way, could I?"
"Damn right you should remember that, Private! Besides, you're not my boss anymore." Anymore?
"It's Colonel, you know."
"Enough of this horseshit! You knew I was onto you and you were trying to whack me off before I could finger you... As the murderer!" Abe yelled, everyone's attention back on him.
Thunder struck again, the whole house shaking. This finally seemed to enrage Will.
"I will not be called a murderer in my own home!" He roared. I was about to intervene again, when the person I least expected beat me to it.
"STOP!"
