The next day
3rd person POV

Despite Katara's warning, we went back to Sokka's house anyway. She wasn't there when we got back so it wasn't that big of a deal.

It's literally two in the morning but I can't sleep. I roll over and see Sokka with his mouth open, breathing heavily. I sigh and stare at the ceiling. If I tell my parents that I'm gay then they're going to do something terrible. If they find out that I have a boyfriend (they will soon, we live in a small town) then they're going to do something worse. I have to tell them, I just don't know how.

I can just walk over to my house and tell them. I'll just leave them a note. It'll be ok. Everything's going to be fine, right? If they kick me out, I can just live with Sokka and the homophobic Katara, I'll spend all my money on food and never go to college, I'll update my Instagram story every hour, and my three followers will hate me. Perfect.

I'm fucking screwed.

I turn the corner and see my house. The street lamp casts a yellow glow onto the red paint, giving off an eery vibe that makes my stomach twist.

I sigh and unlock the door as quietly as I can. I sneak inside, a small flame at the tips of my fingers illuminates the hallway with a soft shine. I find my parent's room and start to slip the note under their door.

"Couldn't sleep, Zuzu?" Azula sneers, startling me

"AH! What the hell, Azula?" I whisper shout

"It's my home too," Azula replies, smugness saturating her voice per usual. She struts over to me "What do you have there, little brother?" She questions, annoying me

"It's none of your business, it's for mom and dad." I tell her

She scoffs "Well, I basically raised you so I think I should get to read it first but very well, as you wish, Zuzu." She says arrogantly as she starts walking away

I bend back over to finally put the note where it belongs when a pair of cold hands snatch it from me.

"Tsk tsk tsk," Azula tuts "I thought you knew me better than that brother." She chuckles evilly and starts unfolding the paper

Her cat-like eyes scan the note.

"Azu-" I start

"You were going to tell them? Them?" She asks coolly, still grinning

"They're going to find out anyways, why does it matter?" I question, exasperated with her antics

"I never said it did, I just think you should be careful Zuko. Especially with them." Her face stays the same but her tone is warmer, almost kind. Almost. "You know I'll always love you but there are people in this town that'll want to hurt you."

I'm shocked, I thought she would be the same as my parents.

"Yeah, I know Azula. Some people have already tried." I instantly regret confiding in her because she looks like she's about to kill someone

"Who?" She growls in a frightening voice

"Just some guys at the corner store near Sokka's house. It doesn't even matter, I shouldn't have said anything." I'm still crouching on the floor looking up at her when the door swings open, crashing into my side.
