Chapter 2: Ruri's health

Y/N walks back to the waterfall after everyone had dispersed, doing their own thing. She spotted an odd-looking man that she recognized.

"A-Are you Asagiri G-Gen?!"

"Oh? A beautiful lady~ What's your name?"

"Oh my goodness! I-I'm Y/N! I-I know you! I-I'm a fan!"

"Really?"

She nods excitedly after recognizing a famous person from the modern world. Gen was curious about the machine under the waterfall and he made eye contact with her.

"Do you know what this is?"

"Nope. It wouldn't hurt to take a look inside, right?"

"Huhu~ Good idea, little lady~"

He takes the bamboo, tilting it so the water came gushing out into a glass flask.

"T-This must..."

Gen excitedly grabs her hand, shaking it vigorously.

"Y/N, that means... Senkū can make Cola!"

"SENKŪ'S A CHEF?! Since when can he cook?!"

"You're a funny girl. Now, let's go find him and show him what we have!"

Y/N follows Gen as he happily skipped to the science lab. As they opened the two of them screamed in fear. Chrome and Senkū were knocked out from some explosion.

"Senkū? Are you creating more trouble like the old times?"

"Experimentation, Y/N. When we were dripping that acetic anhydride to aniline... we accidentally added too much at once..."

"And you're being a troublemaker. Nothing changed!"

Gen raised an eyebrow, wondering what relationship she had with Senkū.

"Ah. I was the school council president and this guy over here kept making trouble. Thus, the comment."

"Y-You read my mind?! Are you a mentalist?"

"No? Your expression just now was a little bit obvious."

"Oh, I see..."

He had started taking a liking to the new addition to the kingdom. Senkū kept blabbering on scientific facts and she tunes out.

"The last thing we need is this carbonic acid you guys brought!"

Like a mad scientist, he mixed the substances together and Y/N watched. As he added Sulfanilamide, a thought clicked.

"T-That's the Sulfa drogue!"

"Exactly!

Kohaku body shivered in excitement,

"Let's bring it to my sister Ruri!"

He smirked as everybody rushed to the village. She stopped, staring back at Gen who just smiled.

"You're not coming?"

"I'm not part of the village."

She had a foot on the bridge, unsure if she was even part of the village.

"Senkū!"

"What!"

"Am I part of the village?"

"Good question. Technically, you were the goddess here so I do not think the villagers have a problem."

Y/N smiles, taking a few steps onto the bridge before waving to Gen. Senkū squinted his eyes and possessively grabbed her arm, making her blush slightly.They arrived at where Ruri was and he gave her the drug, examining her body for a diagnosis. The beautiful lady shivered when he placed the cold beacon on her back.

She really is pretty. And she's Senkū's ex-wife. I'm nothing compared to her...

He was deep in thought, spotting a corpse of a dead rat. He rushes off, grabbing the corpse, bringing it to the science lab. Before he could dissect, Y/N grabbed a few pieces of cloth, wrapping his hair and mouth. His eyes widened but quickly relaxed when he realized she was going it for his sake, not to kill him.

"I thought you were about to suffocate me."

"Why would I? You're our only hope for the kingdom of science, right?"

"Hmm... Now, do you recognize my geniuses?!"

"You're still a troublemaking idiot to me."

She wrapped the cloth securely around him and she stood at the side with Kohaku and Gen. They watch him dissect the rat, silence filling the room. He walked out in silence, and in his serious voice,

"If Ruri has tuberculosis...we currently don't have the means to oppose it."

A small girl, with the name Suika, came running to them, distressed about Ruri's condition. Everyone rushed to Ruri, panic filling the air. The priestress eyes were wide open, coughing into her hands as her body shook violently.

"SENKU, YOU BASTARD!"

Kokuyo who was Ruri and Kohaku's father, roughly grabbed his throat. At ease, Senkū did not feel threatened.

"The bacteria suddenly acted up. The bacteria has a special ability of streptococcus Pneumoniae. In other words, the name of Ruri's disease is..."

"Pneumonia."

"Yes, exactly, Y/N. Sulfoamide will..."

"Annihilate streptococcus pneumoniae!"

"We won!"

He did not mind her finishing his sentences because they were thinking on the same wavelength. His bright smile turned towards Y/N, making her run towards him in joy. Senkū lifted the white powder up, explaining that the germs would no longer be an enemy.

"Again with his, you bastard! Get that sorcery poison-"

Just as Kokuyo's fist came flying, Y/N was already in front of him hugging Senkū. She sobbed,

"I-I'll let you off this time. Your experiment did not cause tro-"

Silence filled the air. Kokuyo's fist made contact with her back, knocking the wind out of her.

"Y-Y/N!"

"G-Goddess!"

She stood still for a moment before getting up. Her hand softly fans the air, looking at the two male who was in shock.

"It's fine. I did some boxing before! But that punch did hurt! Hehe~"

She withstood Kokuyo's punch, which was going to be a joke form now onwards. However, Senkū frowned when he saw how her hand was massaging her back.

"Kokuyo, I assume that's your name."

"Yes! That's my name, goddess!"

"O-Okay, everyone, call me Y/N, NOT goddess! It's a bit uncomfortable. Anyways, I hope that you understand that this is science, a fruit born of humanity's intelligence. Believe in us, believe in Senkū."

One by one, everyone nodded in agreement and proclaimed their trust in science. Kokuyo lowers his head in shame. Over a few weeks, Y/N aided the village to treat Ruri's health, which she became friends with many villagers. Ruri would braid her hair as she stayed by her side wiping her sweat, as a thank you to her. The time came and Ruri was able to walk freely under the sun. Kokuyo started bawling, eventually joined by others. Ruri was absolutely grateful, tears rimming her eyes. Suddenly, she started running and no one expected her to be that fast. Kokuyo grabs Senkū's arm, raising it high in the air as he announces.

"Everyone! Starting from today, this man, Senkū is Ishigami village's New chief!"

The village cheered but both Y/N and Senkū were silent.

"Ishigami?!"

Ruri came walking towards him,

"I've known it since the very beginning. Your name... is Ishigami Senku."
