It was your second week as Karasuno's second team manager. It was so much more hectic than you expected. All the boys had taken a liking to you. Even though volleyball had always been your happy place - your second home, Karasuno had emphasized the feeling of safety, comfort, and joy. You truly felt like you were part of a little volleyball family. You began to spend your lunches with Hinata and Kageyama. Tanaka, Nishinoya, and the rest of the second and third years would swing by you guys a couple times during lunch. Since befriending the whole boys' volleyball team, of course, except that dick, Tsukishima, you usually hung out with them since they were the first friends you made at Karasuno. After school, you would usually stick with Kiyoko, reviewing the boys' stats. You contributed a lot more than Kiyoko had hoped for, giving your personal opinion on training regimens and strategies. Coach Ukai and Sensei Takeda were beyond impressed since their expectations were a little low. You enjoyed the praise for a couple of days, but then it just turned into a routine. Your schedule solely revolved around volleyball. You would wake up at 5 am almost everyday for morning practice and make yourself breakfast. You were almost always the third person at the gym closely behind Kageyama and Hinata.
One morning, you noticed that everyone was exceptionally tired including Hinata which was very surprising. You assumed that they were either studying for the upcoming exams or doing some random shit. Everybody was a little lazy as most of them trudged their feet along the court when shagging the balls. Everyone's receives except Nishinoya's, of course, were sloppy and lazy. To no one's surprise, Coach Ukai didn't take any of the boys' shit yelling at them every time their forms got sloppy.
As the boys' were practicing spikes, Nishinoya practically collapsed halfway from exhaustion and sleep deprivation. Shocked and full of worry and concern, you and Kiyoko rushed to his side.
"Guys, I'm okay. I'm just a little tired," Nishinoya explains.
"You're burning up. No, you're done with practice for today," Kiyoko demanded looking up at Coach Ukai for agreement and permission.
"I'm sorry, Noya, but Kiyoko's right, go home and rest for a bit before practice," Coach Ukai said with a soothing voice as he laid his hand on the poor boy's head feeling his temperature.
"B-but,"
"No, buts. Your health comes first. Don't worry, Noya, we'll be fine," you reassured the weak boy taking his hand and helping him stand. You started to assist him to the door planning to walk him home.
"(f/n), I want you to stay. Kiyoko, you can walk Nishinoya home," Coach Ukai shouted nodding his head to you and motioning for you to join the group of sweaty boys.
"You said you had experience with receives, right?"
You nod shyly wondering where this conversation was going.
"Then you can take Nishinoya's spot. We'll be working on the boys' spikes for the rest of practice. You can do that right?"
"Y-yeah," you say reluctantly. Inside, you thought 'fuck I haven't played in how many years?' Counting to 4, you shook your nerves off.
"Fun. We can finally see the shit of a volleyball player (f/n) really is," Tsukishima gawked in my direction.
"Shut it, you skinny ass shit,"
"Even early in the morning, you're still a feisty ass,"
"Whatever, just get over on your side,"
"This is gonna be interesting," Kageyama mumbled to himself.
Kageyama and Suga took their positions close to the net as the remaining boys split into two lines, one behind Kageyama and one behind Suga.
"I'll go easy on you since you've probably haven't had much practice since you've moved," Daichi reassured with a little sweetness to his voice.
