"Midterm exams are coming up so be sure to prepare for them. As a reminder, you are all in class 1-4. The teachers and staff have high expectations. Moving on, the student council are performing a survey about..." your sensei began to ramble on with the morning announcements.

Exams. They're obviously a big deal in all countries. Japan is no exception. You didn't always receive brilliant grades on exams. However, you have studied so many hours of your life that studying is basically like second nature to you now. Especially with exams. You'd cleverly plan out study times a couple days in advance offering you the best possible test results. Yet, these so-called midterm exams were somehow different to you. You wanted to prove that you belong in class 1-4. More importantly, you wanted to wipe that daunting smirk off of Tsukishima's face, and in order to do that, you set out to achieve the highest score in your year.

"You hear that chibi-chan. Everybody has high expectations for this class. I'll translate into terms you can understand. If. You. Fail. You. Get. Kicked. Out." Tsukishima hissed quietly from behind your seat.

"Yeah, you should tell that to a mirror. We wouldn't want you to leave this class. You know, what it'd actually be a pleasure to not see your shitty face everyday," you scoffed back to him returning your work.

'This is the sole reason why I want to get the best score in our year. I want to beat him. Nothing else. I don't need to prove anything to anyone except him. Right?'

"Bye, Hinata! Kags! You better studyyy!" you shouted as the familiar orange-haired and black-haired duo briskly walked away from your house. Stepping through the door frame of your house, you were greeted by your mother who offered dinner. You kindly refused and asked her to bring it up to your room later. Wasting no time, you headed straight to your desk. Preparing for intense, studious work, you laid out various papers, dropped a couple of hard-covered books with a thud, and hurriedly reached for your pencil case in your backpack.

'Ugh. Studying.'

Not even thirty minutes past before your desk was a complete mess with papers messily clumped together and multiple books open to certain pages highlighted in a somewhat neat way. Unaware of the cluttered state your studying environment, you powered on continuing to study for an hour and a half before your mom creaked the door slightly giving it a gentle knock.

"Honey, it's already ten o'clock. Hurry up and eat and promise me to go to bed."

"Thanks for dinner. I promise I'll go to bed soon."

'That was a lie. A plain out lie. I barely finished studying for math. I still have modern Japanese and social studies.'

"Why can't I understand this thing!" you angrily whispered to yourself keeping in mind that it was 12:34 A.M. and you were trying your absolute best to not wake up your mom. Although, it was going to be easy since your mom is quite the heavy sleeper.

Thud. The sound of your head hitting your hard desk was almost satisfying. Suddenly, you heard an echo. No, not just any echo. A voice. You looked around desolately.

"This shit is easy! Why don't you understand it.. huh?! Nothing is in that worthless. little. brain. of. youre."

The stern voice echoed in your ears followed by the scuffle of papers. A sudden image of those same papers being tossed at you blurred into your mind.

'No. Please.'

Your breathing escalated as you pushed your desk chair back and stood up. Shaking, you slowly walked to the your door grabbing your phone in the process.
