SARAH’S POV
The darkness faded and slowly I began to return to consciousness. My whole body ached; even raising my fingers was a struggle. After a few moments, I began to flex them and raise them, unsure of the unfamiliar texture beneath them. It was soft. Much like the couch in Daddy’s house, yet not the same. There was also something atop my body, but I couldn’t open my eyes to find out what. My hearing began to return, filling my ears with unfamiliar sounds and what I could only assume to be… voices. Where am I? I panicked, searching desperately for the strength to open my tired eyes. Where’s Justin!? My heavy eyelids lifted, revealing my prison. It was white and filled with metallic objects, making weird beeping noises. I flinched repeatedly at each beep, as my heartbeat quickened. Surrounding my room was several others, with the lights turned low. Nighttime? My brown eyes flashed frantically back and forth, my quickening breaths becoming harder to maintain. My mind suddenly shot back to my last memory… He got me. He got me! My mind repeated over and over as visions of the new man from the forest sped through my mind. I let this happen! He’s got Justin!
I clenched my jaw, as tears began to fall over my cheeks. My aching body thrashed and turned in the new bed, yet I could get up. I couldn’t get the strength. I screeched through my jaw, hoping to get free, but in my state it was hopeless. Suddenly, I noticed something… a needle… in my hand. My eyes followed a tube connecting to my hand up to a bag on a metal rod. Again my chest began to heave and my heart quickened uncontrollable, making the beeps quicken with it. He’s poisoning me! I panicked; remembering the last time Daddy had drugged me. It stung and after wards I’d thrown up repeatedly. Worst of all… it left me helpless. I couldn’t let it happen again.
Scrunching up my face and regaining my strength in my opposite hand I raised it and clenched the tube. I let out a shriek of immense pain, as I tried to yank the needle from me. My eyes burned and my hand throbbed and stung, but I couldn’t give up. I couldn’t let it happen again. It was nearly out, amongst a small pool of blood from my hand, when a worried woman sprinted in. Her eyes grew wide in fear. Darting towards me, she forced my hand away and called for help. I wanted so desperately to fight back, but I couldn’t. I was too weak. Please make it quick… I begged silently. I squeezed my eyes shut, expecting the worst but it never came.
I eventually opened my eyes to find the woman bandaging up my hand, though the needle was still in it. “Don’t worry. You’re going to be fine.” She soothed, returning my hand to my side. “I’m Dr. Ellis, Sarah. I’m here to help you.” She assured me, trying to calm me down. It wasn’t working though.
“Why are you doing this?” I struggled to get out. “Is he keeping you too? “ I heaved through uneven breaths.
She scooted forward and looked sadly in my eyes. “Nobody is keeping me, Sarah. Or you. We are in the hospital and I, along with everyone else, am doing my very best to help you. Sarah no one is going to hurt you. I can assure you that you will never see that man again.” She said seriously.
I shook my head violently and began to shake. “You’re lying!” I spat. “What did you do to Justin!? Where did you take him!?” I shot forward, sitting up and swung my head around, but I couldn’t see him anywhere. “Where is he!?” I demanded. “He needs help!”
“Sarah please calm down.” Dr. Ellis ordered, pressing me down. I shrieked and flew forward again, only to be pressed back down. She tried to take my hand, but I dug my nails into her.
“Get back!” I spat bitterly, though fear was beginning to overcome me and I knew she could tell. I dug my nails deeper causing red marks, but eventually released her hand.
She held it to her chest and looked calmly at me. “Alright.” She said, ignoring her pain and raising her arms defenselessly. “I’m not going to touch you.” I nodded.
“Where’s Justin?” I choked.
She swallowed and looked down. “You can’t see him right not Miss.” My heart broke and my eyes widened. “He is in critical condition and he needs to be alone right now.” Her words were evil yet her tone was calm… like him. They’re all like him. My lip trembled and tears began to fill my eyes. I dropped my head back into the soft pillow and closed my eyes.
“Where am I?” I mumbled, hardly audible.
“I told you. You’re in the hospital.” She repeated, keeping her distance.
I took a deep breath, but I couldn’t calm down. “I need to see him.” I barked, still not looking at her.
“I’m sorry I-“
“I need to see him!” I repeated louder. “Let me see him!” I shouted repeatedly. With a shocked look on her face she walked quickly to my side. As soon as she began to move I regretted my decision. “I’m sorry.” I said frantically. “I didn’t mean to hurt you. I didn’t mean to raise my voice.” My voice shook in fear. I shouldn’t have spoken back. My breaths quickened and I began to tremble. I’m going to be punished. I once again squeezed my eyes shut, as the metal rod connected to my needle shook from Dr. Ellis holding it. “What are you doing?” I feared, as she injected something into it. “I promise I wont misbehave again! Please!” I cried.
She looked sympathetically at me and finished injecting the liquid. “This is just to help you Sarah. It’ll help you sleep.” Tears covered my cheeks, as she left the room, which was slowly fading back into darkness. Nonono. I’m so sorry. Please come back! I wanted to beg, but it was too late… they’d gotten me.
