"Hey." I said walking up to Ari and sitting beside her. She just stared at the wall in a trance. Her eyes were welling up with tears but other than that, her face was unreadable."Shouldn't you be in class?" It was the last class of the say but I could not bring myself to sit through another lesson of chemistry.

"Shouldn't you?" She spoke coldly. It was a tone I had never heard Ari use before, not even when she was pissed. In all honesty, it scared me.

"Is everything alright?" She chewed her lip a bit before shaking her head. "What's up?" She shok her head again. Instinctively I placed an arm around her waist and pulled her in close. She rested her head on my shoulder and I saw a few tears slip from her eyes. "Ari, you can tell me."

"I'm going crazy, Zayn." She whispered so quietly I almost didn't hear her.

"No you're not." I shook my head.

"I am."

"Why do you think that?" I questioned. Surely she wasn't crazy, right?

"Zayn..." She inhaled sharply. "The doctor said I can't go to school anymore. I hear and see things that no one else does. I'm the only one who does and apparently being here increases stress and... Them." She empasised the 'I'm.' "They, they try to hurt me, and they do. You can't see it though. No one can."

"Ari, no one would let you get hurt."

"You don't understand." She removes her head from my shoulder and lifts up her jumper sleeve. Her entire arm was covered in criss-cross line. They were still red and looked like they had only just stopped bleeding.

"Ari..."

"They hurt me, Zayn." I shook my head.

"Ari..."

"They hurt." She choked.

"Hey, it's alright. Come 'ere." I pulled into a tight hug.

"I can't stop them."

"What do they do?" I whispered into her ear. I still wasn't exactly sure who 'they' were. She shook her head again.

"I can't." She sobbed.

"You can."

"Zayn."

"Ari."

"It's my fault." She pulled away from me. "It's all my fault." She collapsed back into my arms.

"Hey, listen to me." I told her but she kept crying and shaking her head. "Hey." I pulled her chin up so we were eye to eye. "It's not your fault."

"Bu-"

"It is not your fault. I don't care what they tell you, it's not your fault and it never has been." She nodded and before I knew what was happening, we were both leaning in, then our lips crashed together. Her hand moved to the back of my head and tugged on my hair. I moved my hand to the small of her back, pulling her in closer. She pulled back, all of a sudden and the reality of what just happened came crashing down on me. I just hooked up with one of my best mates girlfriend. She looked at me with wide eyes and mouth agape. Her eyes were confused and guilty. Before I got the chance to explain or apologise, she got up and ran.

Her eyes lit up as she laughed, almost close to tears. Sometimes, she very closely resembled a mental patient, but it was cute. Everyone said my laugh was contagious, but I was fairly sure hers was more. She did that adorable little thing where she kind of rocked back and forth before resting her head in her arms that were folded on the desk.
