CHAPTER FOURTY SIX, PART 1
I bounced backwards, almost landing on my ass. "Woah." Oliver stared down at me while frowning. "Are you OK?"
I shook my head, "I- I'll meet you at the party." I rushed out the door, almost falling down again when I bounded down the stairs. My vision blurred with tears by the time I was on the road. What the hell was that! We almost kissed! I almost kissed Caleb Conners! The scene played out in my head over and over. What was the point in going to this party? Pretty much answering my question, my phone started to ring. I pressed a button on the screen, a green light shining and Caleb's voice passing through the car. "Alley?"
"Yeah?" My voice cracked. Shit. Why did I press that button?
"Where are you?"
I stared blankly at the road in front of me. How long have I been driving for?
"Um, I-I dont know." I frowned and steered the car around.
"Alley about before-" He stopped himself and took a deep breath. "Theres something I need to tell you... but over the phone isn't the right place. I'm at the party-"
"I'll be right there." I interrupted.
"OK." His voice sounded nervous. The call ended, leaving me to stare off blankly. What did he need to tell me?!
I drove to the party in a perlexed state. I was confused, why was this happening? What did he want to talk about?!
I walked inside the house. Parking was hell. Cars were lined up everywhere while inside music thumped and blasted from the speakers. Blake was rich. That part I was immedeatly aware of.
What? Was he so bored of his life that he needed to be a jerk all the time?
The house was white and large, at least five stories. It was obviously fancy and modern. I wondered what his parents did for a living.
From the corner of my eye, I felt the gaze of bunch of guys on me. I felt myself blush when I realised what I was wearing. Mel had picked it out.
Apparently guys liked this type of clingy material. To be honest, it made me feel good.
The room was crowded. Red cups in hand people chatted and danced. I could only guess what was in those red cups when I noticed people wobbling and stumbling around the room.
I immedeatly tried to find Caleb. My thoughts running on that almost kiss. His hands running up my arms... his lips. They were so close.
Why!? Why did Oliver have to wreck that blissful moment?! I have never disliked someone so much in that moment. I need to tell him.
Whatever he's going to say to me. It doesn't matter. I need to tell him the way I feel. I can't go along being friends.
We are not friends. I need more than that! It's torture.
And if... If (a big possibilty of that) he doesn't feel the same way then I guess I'll just destory our whole friendship... Tell him and I'll never see him or don't tell him and ill stillbe his best friend...
Nope. Can't do it. I have to tell him.
I'm going to tell him.
"Hey." I felt a hand touch my arm and twist me around. For a second my heart thudded loud in my chest. Caleb? No. "I didn't think you'd come." Hayden smiled at me. In the most obvious way, I watched him check me out. "You're looking good."
I ripped my hand away. "Have you seen Caleb?" My voice had an despreate edge to it.
His eyes widened at my tone. "Why?"
"Why do you care?" I snapped.
He smirked. "I've seen him."
I stared at him levely, "Hayden, please tell me."
He cocked his head to the side. "Why do you need him?"
I licked my lips and frowned while I stared at him, "I don't know what I ever saw in you Hayden Hayes. You're the biggest asshole."
"You like to fix people." He leaned against the wall while still grinning. "Because you're so dissatisfed with yourself."
I sucked in a breath. "You're an asshole."
"You already said that."
I shook my head this time, "What is it you want Hayden? You want me back?" I slowly smiled. "Whatever you do Hayden it's not going to change the fact that I don't want you. I never will. Want to know why?" I laughed breathlessly. "Because I know who I want and it's not you. It's never going to be you. It's going to Caleb."
"I wasn't going to do this." He muttered under his breath. So low that I wasn't sure that that's what he said. He sighed, "Caleb's near the stairs. Go find him."
"Thank you." I whispered before I walked off. Maybe he really is giving up. Thank god. Though when I walked away, I couldn't help but look behind my shoulder. Hayden watched me leave, a large smirk on his face.
A smile, I never trusted.
I found Mel and Sienna near the door. There heads immedeatly snapped up when they saw me. Mel had a smirk on her face. Another one I didn't trust.
It disappeared. "Alley!" She whispered despreatly. "Caleb's in the closet! He's been waiting for you!"
I frowned. "Why's he in the closet?"
"Because all the rooms up stairs are all full of people." She made a disgusted sound. "So, he asked me if I could guard the door so no one goes in." She widened her eyes and suddenly pushed me towards the door. "Hurry up! He's waiting for you!"
I pressed my heels hard on the floor to stop. "Why are you doing this?" I said breathlessly, "You hate Caleb for dumping you."
She stopped trying to push me towards the door. She smiled as an earnest expression covered her face. "Remember what I said about us being best friends Alley? I know how much you love him. You deserve to be together and as your best friend, I'm not going to stand in the middle of that." She nodded towards the door as her smile widened. "Go."
"Thanks Mel." I smiled. "You're the best." And with that I walked inside the closet. It was pretty small, boxes were stacked up against walls. But there was someone standing and facing the wall.
I closed the door firmly behind me.
"Caleb." I whispered. "Theres something I need to tell you." I walked towards him blindly. "Thank god I can't see your face right now." I muttered and felt his his hand touch my arm, I breathed out and whispered. "Caleb I'm in love with you. Maybe it wasn't love at first sight when I first saw you because I didn't even know you. But when I saw you outside that hospital. I knew. I knew that I was in for a load of trouble. I've never felt this way about anyone and if there's some miracle that you might... might feel the same way, then please... tell me." It all came out in a breathless gush.
I felt his hand tighten on my arm. Suddenly, those hands moved up to my face. He leaned forward. My heart accelerated as soon as his lips touched mine.
My heart hammered loud in my chest as he kissed me. There was something... A feeling in my gut that didn't want to shut up. A voice in my head, screaming at me that this wasn't right.
Something about it didn't feel right.
It was around that moment that the door flew open and my whole world came to a sudden crash.
