The game was a battle of wits, who would break first?

Yusei verses Oikawa

Every time one of them would do something, the other would retaliate in an even more brutal way. However, at the end of the day, the victor was clear.

"ALL HAIL THE DEMON KING, WHO HAS LED US TO VICTORY ONCE AGAIN!"

"ALL HAIL!"

"Alright let's go shake hands." Yusei laughed, grinning widely. Doing so, Anaguma jogged over to the net and shook Seijoh's hands. As Yusei was shaking Oikawa's, they made eye contact.

"We'll beat you next time." He said, his eyes fiery. Yusei rolled her eyes, not even worth being sassy over. She'd heard that a total of five times so far that season and they hadn't managed yet.

Oikawa didn't like that she didn't respond, but didn't say anything as he dropped her hand. Ever since Anaguma had shown up, he had gotten weird vibes from Yusei, like she was hiding something.

Their coaches decided that they would be playing another practice match before spring nationals, which would be in a month and a half.

Spring prelims were a week away, and both teams knew they were ready.

"I think that Oikawa dude has a problem with you, Yusei." Kataoka mumbled, and the female shrugged.

"It's not very surprising, what I find surprising is that I have made a bunch of fans from the teams I have beat, and I don't have a single notion as to why."

"Eh, whatever it is, we need to work on some different combination plays." Nishioka interrupted the two, gesturing with his head to come join the others after their water break. "I have a few ideas and coach liked them."

So their practice that day was spent working on combination plays and lifting weights. Nishioka and Yusei walked home together, talking animatedly about the upcoming preliminary matches.

"Should be a breeze, just like last time."

"I hear Ubugawa is in the other bracket so if we play them, it will be in the finals."

"Sweet, best for last." Yusei grinned, her hands behind her head in her usual pose as they walked.

"Okay well this is where I leave you, so I'll see you tomorrow for morning practice!" Nishioka smiled at her, and she smirked back before she jogged to her front door.

"-I'm just saying it would give her more opportunities, plus the rivals-"

"She's fitting in really well, though."

"Whatcha talking bout?" Yusei asked as she placed her bag by the door and walked into the kitchen where they were.

"Oh hello Yusei." Her father nodded, making her mother scoff and go back to making food. The first year raised an eyebrow.

"Hi." She muttered, "call me when dinner is ready, I'm gonna go study."

"Okay, do your best!" Mrs. Udai called before Yusei shut the door. Getting her phone out, she texted the group chat that she wanted to FaceTime for a few while doing homework.

The first years all decided to join and help each other out, and a few of the second years joined as well. It was a very chaotic study session, but they all enjoyed themselves.

After dinner, Yusei went straight to bed as tomorrow was a school day.

"So, you're the demon king huh? What's so demony about you anyway?" A few thugs cornered Yusei after practice, smirking.

She was completely relaxed, her hands in her pockets as her chin was raised. "Well why don't you find out?"

"Ha! Cocky motherfucker, we're gonna teach you a lesson to get you off your high horse." The leader smirked, punching his fist into his palm threateningly. Yusei's eyes narrowed as she looked down her nose at them, then attacked.

"Hey Yusei-kun, I heard a noise, what happened?" Nishioka asked as Yusei came out of the school.

"Oh nothing." She snickered, glancing back at the corner where she had left the knocked out boys. Right before she had knocked their leader out, she had made him swear not to bother her again, which he had done so quickly.

"You better not have gotten into another fight." Nishioka growled, and Yusei shrugged.

"If I say no will it make you feel better?" She joked before rolling her eyes. "Don't worry, there were no witnesses and no cameras so they can't suspend me again unless the idiots go open their big mouthes."

"... Plural? There were several people who you beat up?!"

"They wanted to, ahem, 'get me off my high horse' and 'teach me a lesson', but I guess I turned it around on them." She snickered, her hands going behind her head in the usual pose. "Come on, let's go."

"Your proneness to fighting will be the death of me."

"Eh, just have to ride out your third year then you won't have to worry!"

"Still gonna worry, we're friends."

"Awww that's cute."

"So do you not see us as friends?"

"I see you as teammates and people to goof off with, not friends. Sorry I don't like friends." Yusei shrugged, making Nishioka frown.

He had always thought they were friends, but now that Yusei had brought it up, it made sense. She never really hung out with them outside of tournaments, practice matches, and volleyball.

Nishioka then decided it was his job to make Yusei realize that they were, in fact, friends and so was everyone on the team.

The next day was weird.

Well, for Yusei it was.

As she was heading to class, the boys from yesterday were standing in front of the door. Yusei's eyes narrowed, an annoyed tick appearing on her temple as she stood in front of them. "The hell do you want? More punishment?" She asked.

"No sir, we... We wish to become your disciples!" They bowed, making Yusei's eyes widen and step back.

"D-disciples? Like minions?"

"Yes! We would be at your beck and call, we'll help you with everything and back you up! No one will ever try what we pulled! Please allow us this!" The leader pleaded, making Yusei sigh and run a hand over her face.

"Fine, I suppose so. We will discuss this more during lunch." She told them sternly, and they looked up with wonder and excitement in their eyes.

"Yes your eminence!" They bowed again.

"Now out of the way, I have class." She grumbled, and they immediately shuffled to the side and continued to bow as she walked into the classroom.

"So you've got a cult now I see." The teacher walked up to her, and she shrugged with a smirk.

"Yeah, pretty great right?" Yusei put her things down and then looked outside. "It's definitely gonna be interesting."
