Chapter 1- Made mistakes

I live in the terrible country: Kingston and if you live there you have to follow the rules that apply there. Rule 1 - you are not allowed to go outside after 10 PM. rule 2 - you have to go to school every day except weekends. rule 3- you are not allowed to travel to other countries. Rule 4- You should not weigh more than 75 pounds. Rule 5- Don't steal food from others. What if you break the rules? Then your name will appear more often on someone's screen in the month of June. In the 6th month of the year, the annual game is Faults and the idea is to find and kill the one so that you get money. Children from 16 to 18 years old participate. The country is closely guarded and you cannot just get in or out. Kingston is a very poor country, but there is one city with more money than any resident. It's called City 20. I live in City 14 with my sister Valorie, mother and father in a small house by the water. In total there are 20 cities and every city is equally poor except City 20. You cannot just go there and if you do you will end up in prison. My name is Caleb Campbell and welcome to my story.

I wake up and I am not feeling well, but I still have to go to school because of rule 2. I get dressed and I go downstairs. Today I got up late so I don't have time for breakfast. I walk to my best friend Harlin Knight's house. We've been friends since we were 7 and now we're both 16. "I can use the money pretty well so this year I'm going to take Faults seriously," said Harlin as we walked into school. I was in class thinking. Have I broken a rule this year ?. Suddenly something flashes through my head. I was at a friend's party yesterday and I had been drinking a little too much. I went home at a quarter to 10 but I was so drunk that I couldn't get around my legs. I didn't know what time I got home because my phone was empty so I didn't know what time it was. with 1 rule that you break, your name will appear on people's screen 5x. But tomorrow I will find out how many people want to kill me for the money City 20 is giving away. at 3 o'clock I walked back home with Harlin. "Have you broken any rules?" he asked. "Uhmm ... no and you?" I replied. I'd rather keep it to myself because I'm not sure.

"Yes I wanted to tell you that, about a week ago I was with a girl Abby Dallas and she told me she was out of food so I brought her some food but I stole it" he said. I can't believe this, how could Harlin be so stupid. Abby Dallas is a girl who doesn't care about the rules and she does everything she wants but I don't know her very well. "Then you have to defend yourself well this year," I told him. Tomorrow the game Faults will start and on your phone you will see a name and a picture of a person and that person you have to kill. If you want to know that person's address or other information, you have to pay extra money.
