Chapter 2- The names

Today is June 1, so today every child will see a name. A name appeared on my phone screen. Abby Dallas. No wonder why I have her. She must have broken many rules this year. "Who do you have?" I ask my sister Valorie. "A boy and his name is Finnley Walker, but I don't know him," she said. Valorie is 18 years old so this is her last year and she has never broken a rule so my parents are very proud of her. "And who do you have?" she asked. "A girl called Abby Dallas but I don't know her either" I replied. I lied to Valorie because I don't know yet what to do with this. I receive a message on my phone. It says: This year you broke rule 1, so your name will participate 5 times. I was expecting this so I have to protect myself. My mother comes into the living room. "Remember, we need the money so look for the person you got," she said. Maybe I don't want to kill Abby at all but do I have a choice? My parents are not asking if I broke a rule this year because they expect me to behave this year but they are wrong.

Today school started a little later. As always, I walked to Harlin's house. He opened the door and he pulled me into his house and then he closed the door quickly. "You said you didn't break any rules this year," he said. "I didn't break any rules," I said back. "Then how come I got your name?" he whispered softly so that his parents couldn't hear us. I looked at him but I couldn't say anything. How is this possible, why must my best friend have got my name ?. "I got Abby but I don't know what to do," I said. "My parents want me to kill the one I got this year," said Harlin. Is Harlin going to kill me and can I still trust him? We walked to school and we looked around because we knew 10 people want me and Harlin dead. "And ... are you going to kill Abby because you know I like her?" Harlin asked me. "I don't know yet" I said softly. We arrived at school and there was a tense atmosphere around everyone because nobody can trust each other anymore. Abby is in a different class but I always see her during the break. Harlin always stares at her but I don't think she likes him at all. Should I kill her or should I tell her I got her name?
