The drive had been relatively smooth, there had been no infected, or blue lasers or haboobs, not even any humans.
The sun beamed down through a mildly cloudy weather, Jackson had been driving since they left the house.
The main road to the city had been closed down so he had to take a lot of detours, which added hours upon hours to his drive, but finally he had made it to the city, which meant the only thing separating his family from safety was a two hours drive.
The speed of the car reduced drastically as he applied the brakes, he had decided to drive slowly into the city, a trick he picked up in his army days.
He watched quietly as little stores and shops gave way for high-rise buildings and cross roads. Only everything was wrong.
Bodies laid on the sidewalk with most of their flesh gone, some even twitched a bit as they laid down on the ground, almost every thing made of glass was broken, including windows and doors, cars where parked everywhere some where even on fire.
An ambulance not to far was going crazy as it sirens screamed at the top of it's lungs.
"Christ this seems like the best time for rapture"
He began to pick up speed as the car accelerated along with his heart, thanking God all the kids where asleep, but cursing as to why James was asleep too.
With the speed he had picked up he drove passed a man in an army uniform with his whole face missing. His heart sunk as he realized, this man's family must be somewhere praying and waiting for him, he thought as his mind went further, to open the casket of a friend he knew he shouldn't have lost.
Sixteen years ago.....
The repeated sounds of gunshot played like a song on repeat.
Bullets rippled through the air each one propelled by resonating bang, each bullet narrowly missing Jackson's hiding spot.
"Sir what do we do we are taking heavy fire"
"Sir there's an opening there"
"Go for it out! Out!! Out!!"
"Jones take those two through the tunnel, I LL stay with James, give him cover until his done patching David. Bring back help ok
"Your in charge now get them out of here""Sir yes sir" Jones said as he and two other Marines run out through a tunnel and into the light"
"Sir it was a trap, fall back I repeat fall...."
"Jackson look out" James shouted from the passengers seat bringing Jackson back to reality.
Adrenaline rushed and blood pumped over time as he swerved the car to dodge an ambulance that was imbedded in a pastry shop, causing the car to crash into a shoe store.
Vision remained a problem for him for minutes, his ears ringing like a TV on static, as a war feeling he was to familiar with slowly creeped back into his mind. He couldn't tell if it was the concussion he was sure he had but he could hear gun fire.
Several minutes passed and he finally got his composure back, he struggled with the airbag a bit but was able to get out his right arm stung crazily calling his attention to the piece of metal which stabbed in his hand. A few seconds of agonizing pain and the metal was out and he was out the car heading to the kids.
John had already brought most of them out, it remained only Micheal, which Jackson wasted no time to remove from the wreckage.
The kids were still recovering from the crash all of them conscious but a bit dazed, all except fortune who had fainted before the impact.
