3rd person P.O.V.
It had been two years since the Blue-Incident happened and a year and few months ago when the three new personality cores came into play for Aperture Lab. There was now a new system for all the personality cores as well as Caroline. Colonel Core was now the instructor for teaching the turrets how to shoot properly and keeping them in line. Adventure and Fact Core still watched the testing bots test but instead of watching the construction of the lower labs they, and the other new cores worked on planting/growing food.
Also Physician Core had a new role in the labs which was to make medications, well specific types of medications that GLaDOS told him to make for some reason.
It was kind of strange to see the personality cores grow crops and food even though nobody needed that to survive because GLaDOS already killed all human test subjects she found in a hidden vault by testing them. After they harvest the food ATLAS and P-body would come and take it away doing who knows what with it.
GLaDOS had a strange plan but wouldn't share it with anyone. Especially a certain parasite that wouldn't stop bugging her about almost everything in her perspective.
On a few occasions Adventure Core would try to somehow help out the testing bots in the chamber since it was in his defective programming to do dangerous and exciting things. But he didn't get very far since Fact Core and Caroline was there to put him in his place, also because he wasn't very good at testing.
Caroline got to see how the new cores behave up in person. For Physician Core, he would act so giddy when he would talk about what he does to Fact Core since they both shared a fascination of knowing things and sharing information but also debate about his illogical facts. He was quite the chatterbox when he opened up but very nervous around other cores. Adventure Core sometimes bugs him a lot about how boring his job was but he never spoke up against him since he was kind of a passive core. To sum it all up he was a bit of a push over but very social core once you get him to open up.
Parental Core was kind of a unique core, she would baby the saplings and talk to the plants as if they were children and scold the crows from picking at the plants. It was like a mother and father mixed into one whole core. She did interact with the others, give some useful advice, encouraged others, and scolded Adventure Core a lot for being either too reckless or picking on Physician Core. Summing her up was like having a long lost parent/friend who would try to help you and parent you at the same time.
Now Colonel Core did not usually hang out with other cores unless there was someone monitoring the brand new turrets while he was gone. While his job was to train the turrets he also took on the role to see if the turret model had not been tampered with since certain someones did that once during the Blue-Incident. He and Adventure Core either clashed heads with each other or got along, eventually he grew a soft spot for Fact Core and Physician Core because he could see a potential for them. Although he has a bit of an ego, he is a cooperative core who does what he is told to do and usually takes orders from mostly Caroline and a little bit of GLaDOS herself.
Things have been improving these past few months, if Caroline was still captive inside GLaDOS she would have given a nickname for her that would have driven her insane. For GLaDOS, Core 5 was proving to be very useful just from training the turrets and carrying out her orders. She was glad that Core 3 was meek since he didn't ask questions about why she wanted him to produce large amounts of medication but the only questions he asked was how much and what to use. Lastly Core 4, she was not so completely useless when she was doing her part in the garden, GLaDOS found out from her sources that apparently it was a good thing to talk to plants. Supposedly, that's what made them grow healthier when you talked positively to them, which was exactly what she did.
Yes, this was the new routine for a while and was going to continue to be for a long time. Or so GLaDOS thought it was.Chell P.O.V.
It was a warm evening. The sun glowed from the east side as it signaled that night would be approaching soon. The trees swayed gently as a cool breeze drifted by, and it just so happened it swept under her ponytail. Everything was peaceful, the world seemed very peaceful to Chell at that moment.
No testing to be done, no need to be on guard every second, no crazy Cores to harm her from above ground, and best of all, friendly neighbors that were welcoming to their small community. Life outside the Aperture lab was great indeed, well after the first few months of adjusting to a new way of life then it became easier. There was no need for her long fall boots or her portal gun which was tucked away somewhere safe. She had great company from C.C.(Companion Cube), and other actual human beings.
When she first came here, she had to carry C.C. with her until she reached the border to town before collapsing from dehydration since the sun was out and she hadn't had anything to eat or drink in a long while. She was rescued by this couple that had been out on a walk and happened to see her on the ground. They let her stay for a while and got her to open up since her time in the lab made her hesitate to open up to others due to them being two faced. After she recovered she met the people who were in charge there and they gave her an empty house near the satellite tower since they probably assumed she knew a thing or two about electronics.
Once she moved into the house it had been two months already, she was like a tortoise coming out of her shell when she helped plant food, communicate with the residents, and made friends with the couple that rescued her. Of course they had questions about her time down in the lab but due to her not being able to speak they couldn't really get information. The children were really kind and helpful to her, when they wanted to talk they would bring some sticks and a canister of water to help her communicate. Eventually she told the community about her time in the lab and especially GLaDOS, in the end the leader of the community banned anyone from going to the wheat field and the old shed.
C.C. was very popular with the children as they would press their ears on the sides to listen to the cube hum, it would sometimes hum soothing melodies or mimic the children's own humming.
Eventually she made more new friends, a young woman named Jennifer who was a brunette with a slight tan with dark brown eyes. She introduced Chell to writing and gave her a notebook for her to write in whether it be for communicating or personal use. And then there was Trevor, who just helped around everyone if they needed help and was very involved with the community. He helped her move into her new home, he was the same height as her with black hair and light brown eyes, he usually wore a blue plaid shirt and black pants. He even told her that it was his signature style and that sometimes they kids would try and copy him.
Many things happened over the first year like experiencing the seasons and learning old traditions that the community did for the holidays. She received a telephone in her house since getting them was a sign as the final stage to becoming apart in the town. Another year went by and it turns out that the couple was pregnant and was seven months underway which was great news.
So there she was outside of her home watching the sun go down. She still wore the same white tank top but instead of the orange jumpsuit that she used to wear, she had dark blue jeans instead. If she was being honest she did like the jumpsuit better since it felt oddly comfortable to her, but over the two years she received more clothing.
As much as she wanted peace at last there was still something odd in the town that kept bugging her. In her first year here she asked where they get all their food during the winter time since you couldn't grow anything when it snowed. Apparently they used to stock up all the seeds they could get and limit the food they eat during the winter season which they used to lose people from the cold and starvation. But recently there has been someone or some people who started delivering crates of food and medicine to them so that they wouldn't run out of food in the winter any more. And they could treat more sick people.
She couldn't help but feel a little suspicious about those crates or those generous people but for the meantime she decided to leave them be for now.
A cold breeze drifted past her face which made her snap out of her thoughts, she looked up and saw the sun was setting already. Also the stars came out early today, she looked down and shook her head. A certain someone runnied the stars for her so whenever she saw them she couldn't help but feel anger boil inside her. If she had kept looking at the sky instead of heading back to her house. She would have seen a falling star.
