Esmae POV
When I saw my father hit the ground and the blood pouring out of his chest, my anger went through the roof. If it weren't for Lee coming out and smoothing things over, I would have ripped Luna's throat out with my teeth. My father was mine to kill and she took that from me effortlessly. The worst part is that she didn't even have a shred of sympathy in her eyes when she saw that I was pissed off. Now I have to live with this woman for god knows how long and I'm not really looking forward to it. And on that note, I can't help but wonder what she meant when she said we were "even".
Luna looks to me with no emotion yet again. "Come on. Lets get in the car." She says as she brushes past me. I roll my eyes at her cheap tactic then grab onto my brothers hand tightly as we both follow her to the car. The last place I'd ever want to go is anywhere with her. Lee and I are perfectly fine at the cafe so I don't understand why we have to leave our home and Marnie behind. Not only that but my brother Lee is a gay feminine boy that wears skirts and cute crop tops and not everyone is so opened to that idea. What if they are like my father and hate the fact that Lee is who he is? I don't want that for Lee at all.
A man walks up from behind me and lifts up his hand. The gesture absolutely terrifies me, resulting in me pulling my little brother into my arms and wrapping myself around him. Lee does the same to me.
Luna looks at me and Lee puzzled as of to why we reacted the way we did. She looks back to her right hand man and nods.
"Matteo, drive in the car behind us." She tells him. He cocks his head to the side and disagrees.
"No. I'm not leaving you alone with them."
"Matteo, it wasn't a suggestion. Car behind us. Now!" She scolds Matteo like he's a child. He looks over to us then walks to the car behind Luna's car. She smiles at us both then opens the car door, gestured for us to climb in. I let go of Lee and make him get in first before me, just in case they try something.
I don't understand why Luna all of as sudden cares about our well being. Just a few days ago, she was trying to track me down and kill me but now she wants me to live with her for, quote on quote, my own safety. She's confusing and I don't like it at all. She's unpredictable and ruthless. I remember a time when I was younger where I'd appreciate that kind of characteristic. A girl who saved me was exactly like that, but now that I'm older and haven't seen that girl in years, unpredictability is something I can't handle. Me not being able to understand something is absolutely terrifying, especially when Lee can be in the cross fire. I know he's 18 and I'm only 20 but that doesn't change the fact that he's my little brother.
As we are driving to our next destination, Luna looks into the rear view mirror and at us ever two minutes. Lee is laying his head on my lap, asleep as I hold onto him tightly.
The way Luna looks at everyone seems almost heartless. Like she couldn't care less about anyone around her. The only person she ever looks at with emotion it that Matteo guy. I wonder why she's so cold.
"Why do you alway look like you're in pain?" I cut right to the chase but make sure to ask calmly so I don't provoke her. She looks at me through the mirror and smirks.
"When you've been to hell and back you kind of lose sight of your emotions." She keeps her eyes on the road.
"I've been through hell but I'm still me. I still have a smile on my face." I look to her in the rear view mirror and watch her expression. Her face doesn't alter.
"Some people know how to handle trauma. I never did so I paid the price." The car grows silent for a good five seconds before I break the silence.
"What happened to you? For you to be such a sour puss?" She looks to me and back at the road.
"A multitude of things. Now stop asking questions and just sit back. We're almost at my building." She demands. I close my mouth and sit back as she said to do.

When the car comes to a stop, a huge, fancy building is right next to us. Luna gets out of the car so I'm guessing this is her home. It's nothing like I imagined. When she said building, I don't think she was serious. I run my hand through Lee's hair to wake him up, then the car door opens with Luna standing out side of it. We climb out of the car but before we can go inside she hands us both some blindfolds.
"Put these on. You'll thank me later." She says calmly. I look to her with a soft smile. Lee looks to me and I nod so that he knows to actually put it on. I feel her hand touch my back and jump slightly. She whispers to me that it will be okay so I just take her word for it. I hear a door unlock and that's when she pulls the blind folds of and tells us to go in. When we walk in, both Lee and I look at her place in awe. It's absolutely beautiful here.
"You live here?" Lee asks as he runs towards the couch.
"Yeah, but come on kid. Let me show you your rooms." She starts to walk up the spiral staircase without us so I quickly follow behind her as I pull Lee behind me. Upstairs, there are five doors that lead to bedrooms. She shows us one bedroom and it's completely white. The walls are white, the sheets are white. There is a glass box the goes from the roof to the floor with a plant sitting inside of it and the bed is pressed against it.
"Marnie said you guys always sleep in the same bed at night." Lee and I run into the room and jump onto the bed, giggling as we fell the bed jiggle from our impact. "If you want anything changed in here, tell me. I can call someone and have them paint the walls, change furniture." She affirms. "Will you two be okay for the night?"
"Yes!" Lee says with excitement. She smiles at us both and walks out of the room, shutting the door behind her. Ms. Luna is very mysterious.

Lee is fast asleep on the right side of the bed, but I can't fall asleep at all. All I can think about is my father and Marnie. So much has happened in one day and the thought of it makes me want to throw up. I slip from out of my bed, walk downstairs and into the kitchen. I grab a glass cup from the dishwasher because it's the only place I can reach. I fill it up with water and lean against the island counter. I hear footsteps coming from the staircase, followed by a manly grunt. I know for a fact that it not Lee because his voice isn't that deep.
When the person reaches the last step, I see that it's a buff, tall man standing before me. My grip on the glass cup loosens and it slips out of my hand. The sound of the glass shattering pulls me out of my trance but then he starts yelling.
"What the hell is your problem?!" He shouts.
