He waved at me and my parents and gave a killer smile. Oh, that smile. It could literally make me melt. "I.. uh.." I said, breathless, "I'll meet you all in the dining room." I went to the dining room, because I really could use a glass of water. I was trying to calm myself down, and prevent myself from freaking out or in worse case scenarios; faint.
I pulled my phone out from the pocket of my cardigan and immediately sent a message to Violet and Casey in our little group chat we made on facebook.
You; Guys..
Violet Walters; What?
Casey Merilyn; Yea?
You; Nothing. Nvm.
Violet Walters; Lol, ok.
Casey Marilyn; Uh.. Okay?
I couldn't exactly tell them what was happening. I was freaking out too much, and I felt like if I told them, they would freak out too, which would not help. That would be the last thing on the list that I need in this situation. I put back my phone in my pocket and sat down on one of the chairs of the dining room. I chose to sit between my parents because I felt more comfortable that way.
My mom started serving different kinds of dishes to the table, and she placed a jug of orange juice to go with it.
After everything on the table were settled, mom sat back with us and held my hand. "Let's say grace." She said softly. I reached for my dad's hand, and everyone else held hands. "Lord, thank you for this food and giving us the opportunity to be able to have this get together. Help us to enjoy every bit of the meal you provide to us. In this we pray in Jesus name.." "Amen." Everyone answered back.
Everyone reached out for the meals that would satisfy their personal appetite, then Mrs. Evans started speaking. "So, Skar, Isn't it?" I nodded hesitantly, "That's an interesting name." She smiled. I could see the resemblance of her and Dylan very much. Their sweet and gentle smile are so alike.
"Oh," My mom jumped in, "Her real name is Skarlett. We only call her Skar as her nickname."
I smiled again. I couldn't say or do anything but to just smile and eat my meal. Every time I try to say something, it was like something was stuck in my throat, making me choke. I've never been so nervous in my whole life.
"So, which school do you go to, Skar?" Mr. Evans asked. I happened to have just drank water right after he asked, so I found it safe to say something. That's if I was not nervous enough. But, I tried my best. I wouldn't want to look like a idiot in front of everyone. "Actually.." I had to clear my throat, "I uh.. In Long Beach Polytechnic High School." I felt pretty relieved that I've actually completed a whole sentence. I felt like I could say anything after that.
"Oh." Mrs. Evans said, amused. "Isn't that your school, honey?" she turned to Dylan. "Yea, mom." He nodded as he drank his glass of orange juice, "I actually recognize her. Yeah." I bet he recognized me as The Girl who fell on her first day of Junior year. That was not a cool moment.
Couple conversations flew around the room then after we all finished eating, we all stood up from our seats, and my parents insisted on leading them all to the gate. Dylan walked in front of all of us, and I was just behind him the whole time. When he opened the front door, he went straight out, and I went after him. However, when I looked behind me, no one else was there. Me and Dylan were the only ones who went out the house. We were basically alone. It was the worse night.
It was getting too awkward. I couldn't go back inside, because I figured that it would be more awkward if I did. I just stood there, waiting for them to come out. He just stood there as well. I wondered what he was thinking. He didn't look like he felt as awkward as I felt though.
"Your parents were very kind." He said, killing the awkward energy. Finally. His voice once again, made my heart stop. "Yea" I replied shyly. "They are."
To my rescue, My dad walked out of the door with the rest of them. "I'm sorry, they had to use the bathroom for a while." He said. I tucked my lips together to show my inconvenience. "Well, we're off now." Said Mr. Evans.
"Thank you again." Mrs. Evans thanked. Dylan touched cheek with my mom, and shook my dad's hand. then he waved goodbye to me. HE. WAVED. GOODBYE. TO. ME. It felt like that scene where he just asked my parents' blessing to marry me, and visited my house just so he could see me, and now he's leaving. Here I go again, daydreaming of non-sense that would never happen. I should stop. But however I try, I just couldn't.
