Say my name
Not the name you can pronounce, speak of my name.
Speak of its origin.
It's meaning let it roll off your tongue,
Honey sweet and succulent honey let my name be the honey that drips upon your lips.
Do not speak of equality when you deny my name for yours.
Do not speak of justice till I stop seeing my face on every man, woman and child that lay dead six feet under for crimes uncommitted. You say they look like me, and maybe that's why I fear my skin so much.
For if you can kill him then I am no different.
I may talk 'straight', annunciate.
Have a college degree, 6 figure card.
But you won't see that first
You'll see him
You'll see her
You'll see them
I am a walking reminder that death has evaded your grasp,
A dripping reminder of the blood you shed unequivocally.Say my name!
Scream out my tribes name.
Speak, does privilege choke your tongue?
Wash it down with denial.
Say my name.....
Just once before you send me off say my name so my ancestors know who's bed to make on the other side.
