This quote brings back a lot of memories. "one day you will tell your story of how you overcame what you went through and it will be someone else's survival guide".
We are all just stories
Everyone has a story. We carry our stories inside us because sometimes we feel like no one cares. After all, we are just ordinary humans, doing ordinary stuff. What could possibly be so interesting about our lives that others would want to read about them?
Human beings are incredible in their determination to survive and thrive in the face of daunting obstacles. Your life is full of stories like this. You have survived really hard times. You have overcome great challenges that seemed insurmountable when you first faced them.
We have all faced things we did not want to face. We have tried and failed. We have let people down. We have picked ourselves back up and taken another step forward. When we were knocked down, we got back up again.
You have changed in ways that were nearly imperceptible as it was happening. Or, the changes came like tidal wave sweeping you along in its violence and delivering you on shore as a different person. You have grown. You have learned valuable lessons. Others need to hear those stories.
When you share the ways you have struggled, and you are willing to show your soft underbelly to others, you show them that it's okay to talk about the things we all hold inside for fear that others will judge us. We are afraid that no one will understand. Suddenly, because you had the courage to share your story, we see that it's okay to be imperfect, to make mistakes, to struggle, to be human.
We all need to sit around the fire together, warming ourselves and telling our stories. It is when we gather at the proverbial camp fire that we discover that we are all the same. It is what connects us all — this human experience of bloody failures and glorious victories.
The world needs your stories
We need each other's stories. We crave the fellowship of others who have overcome. We need to hear from those who have faced what we are facing and lived to tell about it. We need the courage. We need to know that it's possible to change, to overcome, to go on living.
When you tell your story you never know when the arrow of your words will hit the target of others' hearts. You may be writing your story for one person. Your story may be the survival guide for that person, as they tuck your words into their heart and use them as a compass to navigate through their difficulties.
What if you had decided not to tell that story because you were afraid no one cared? Some days when I sit down to write I wonder if the world really needs anymore words. Do busy and distracted citizens of this planet need one more thing to read? Does my writing really matter? It could be the moment when I get up from the computer and go do something else.
But I don't get up; I get started anyway and I plow ahead despite all my misgivings, all my doubts, all the voices in my head telling me no one cares. If you are a writer, I am willing to bet you have had a similar experience. It is easy for us to listen to that voice in our head that says "Who cares what you write? Why does your story matter?"
Why should we write our stories?
So why do we write? And does anybody really care? Maya Angelou says, "There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you."
We all carry our stories within us. Sometimes we write because we have to get the story out of us. If we don't, those stories can become heavy and get in the way of our moving forward. When they begin to create a fuss and demand to be told it can take more energy to hold them in than just let them out.
in her book, "The Crown of Age" said "There was a fire in me that wanted to burn and it was either going to destroy me or nurture me."
if you have any questions pls ak i would answer them.
