While the darkness king was trampling over human houses,
Darnel and everyone else managed to escape from prison, returning to the castle to confront the darkness king."Gold! It's mine!"
But they only found grey creatures fighting over gold and sparkly accessories.
"GWAHAHAHAHA!! The gold is mine! You can't take it you losers!"
And they saw Avaritia cackle loudly as he showed a golden necklace with shining gems in his hand to the flock of creatures who were glaring at him fiercely.
The creatures didn't notice the group of humans arriving, but Darnel was already taking out his sword to fight.
"That's one of the monsters who ruined the lives of the people in my village!"
Darnel yelled with hatred as he pointed his blade at Avaritia.
The other hero took out his weapon as well. Nyahlia was taking out her two daggers, and Anastashia took out a chair out of her backpack.
"Huh? Darnel?"
Avaritia asked in surprise as he stared at the group.
Darnel flinched when the monster called his name."Wh-why do you know my name, monster!?"
Darnel asked as he charged at Avaritia, ready to use his sword.
He charged it with his thunder magic, which he learned while fighting all those monsters."What?! A magic swordsman?!"
The king exclaimed in shock.
Avaritia barely managed to dodge, while the grey creatures were watching with interest what would happen next in the fight.
Amicum was hiding the gold he stole from the other monsters as they were distracted by the fight."Oh! You're attacking me because I'm not human, right?"
Avaritia said as he remembered how kind Darnel was to him as a human.
"What are you saying, monster?! I'll never forgive you for killing my father and brother!"
Darnel said as he attacked Avaritia with seething anger.
"Huh? But I didn't kill me! See? I am your brother!"
Avaritia said with a smile as he transformed into a human.
No one said anything as Darnel stared at Avaritia in shock.
"Now you are even trying to deceive me?! Monster!"
Before he snapped out of his shock and swung his blade at Avaritia again.
"Eh? What?"
Avaritia muttered that to himself with a blank expression as he was slammed into the wall by Darnel's thunder-charged blade.
He ignored how much damage the attack did to him as he asked himself with much confusion:
(Why is Darnel attacking me? I am a human now.)Avaritia turned his head to Amicum's direction and shouted:
"Boss! Why is Darnel attacking me even though I am his human brother now?"
Amicum flinched at his name being suddenly called.
"Uh...He saw your real form?"
He said as he tried to leave the scene.
"Oh..."
Avaritia immediately understood what that meant.
Darnel doesn't see him as his brother anymore."Wuaaaaahhh!! Darnel doesn't like me anymore!"
Avaritia said while crying for something else than gold for the first time.
He ran away while pushing the surrounding grey creatures out of the way."Come back, Monster!"
With Darnel running after him.
-------
"I'm sorry, brother! It's all my fault!"
"No it's my fault!"
The two former farmers cried without having moved from the forest.
The world was attacked by a monster population and they were at fault."How can I be forgiven for what I did?!"
"No! How can I be forgiven for what I did?! You're not at fault!"
"Stop giving yourself all the blame when it was clearly me!
You know what? I will defeat the monsters to fix my mistake!""Stop brother! It's clearly my fault! I will destroy them!"
But after days of crying in the forest, their attempts to take responsibility for the outbreak of calamity monsters finally lead them to actually leave the forest.
"We have been defeating them with the strong equipment we got when we were still in that world! It's time that I use it for good!"
--------------------------------------------------------------
"Hey! Former guard Amicum, you never told us to betray our king!"
"Hey don't call me that! Also he deserves being betrayed!"
After Avaritia ran away with that Darnel after him, his team began fighting against these grey guys.
But I obviously won't participate since I will die if I stay in the same room as those guys.
And so I ran- I mean, retreated to the upper floors of the human's castle.
But then one of those stupid grey animals ran after me to complain.I refuse to accept being equal to them. I gained lots of intelligence and strength after fully growing out my horns, realising how stupid and similar they all are.
"But if the king brings back gold, he will not give us any because we betrayed him!"
"Stupid monster, he clearly said he didn't care about gold!"
I get a headache just interacting with these gold-hungry animals. At least that Avaritia does what I tell him to. Though I do admit that I like gold a lot as well.
"Why are you betraying our king then?!"
"If he wasn't such a stupid, gold-obsessed, lazy king, I would have never been in this state!"
Sure I was a guard assigned to guard his treasury, but that wasn't a reason to take away all my strength for secretly snatching a gold coin away from there! I was able to destroy mountains and that made me popular! I was one of those rare calamity monsters!
Even after his gold obsession faded away, he refused to give me back my strength just because he didn't feel like it! Of course I would feel like beating him up!
"How can you say gold is bad! You said we would get gold, but if you don't like gold, then I won't follow you!"
The angry grey creature flew away into the distance with it's long wings.
How annoying. Guess I have to act more obsessed about gold. Good thing that I hid the gold I collected from them.
I sighed as I walked back down the castle. I wish I had Avaritia's human transformation ability. I could have lived with a bit more smarter creatures.
I approached the two fighting forces and shouted as loud as I could:
"Gold! Gold! We will get more gold!"
The grey creatures heard my roar and pushed the humans back, making them struggle even more with their small number of fighters.
That will make them struggle a little more. I put on my cloak and disappear from the scene.
