A few days later, Kenny and Dolly decided to go shopping for their baby as Dolly was getting ready as she looked at her rapid growing baby belly through her mirror and smiled.
"I wish I knew if you were a boy or a girl. As soon as mommy and daddy find out who you are, then we'll go buy you all kinds of things and decide on your name." Dolly said as her hands rested on her belly as Kenny walked in.
"Ya know, I was thinkin' about designing the nursery." Kenny said as Dolly smiled at him.
"But we don't know the gender yet."
"Well, I have to prime first before the base coat goes on, but I'm sure the girls will be more than thrilled to pick out our baby's nursery theme."
"Well, I already thought about the baby's room theme. If it's a boy, we'll design it kinda like a western style with blue wallpaper and if it's a girl, we'll go with that country yellow with pink paint and butterflies." Dolly said as Kenny smiled.
"You have it all figured out dear."
"I have for a long time. I just want this to be a me and you project because you'll be back on the road soon and I'll be here." Dolly said as she turned around, trying not to cry but her hormones were preventing her from that.
"You can come with me baby." He said wrapping his arms around her.
"It's not fair that Sheena can be out there on the stage with you and I can't."
"Honey, you're pregnant. We just don't want something to happen."
"What do you think will happen if I get left unattended for too long? I'm only patient to a certain extent." Dolly said
"Then I won't go."
"You already booked the dates."
"Y'all are more important to me than anything right now." Kenny said as he held her to his chest as his hands rested on her hips.
Dolly leaned her head on his shoulder as she closed her eyes, thinking about everything that was to come in a few months.
"Before and after our little angel is born, things will change. I promise you Dolly."
"Promise?" She held held out her pinky and he swore.
"I cross my heart." Kenny said as Dolly smiled.
...
Later on that day
Kenny and Dolly were shopping when the press swarmed around them like bees around a hive.
"Dolly, are you pregnant?" One woman asked.
"Yes she is and be generous for once and leave us alone."
"Is it your baby?"
"Yes." Dolly said as she about came unglued.
"Are you sure?"
"Will you please leave us alone on our day off. I wanted to have a shopping day with my husband. Y'all shoumd be at home, minding your own damn business instead of meddling into our lives." Dolly said as she was about fed up with them.
"Come on baby, let's go home." Kenny said as they walked away and out into the parking lot.
Dolly stopped as her head hung low as the tears started falling.
"Damn them!" Dolly said in anger.
"I know baby." Kenny said as he wrapped his arms around her.
"I wanna go home. I'm tired and our baby has had enough."
"Plus, my girl needs a foot massage." Kenny smiled as they drove off.
