"CJ, I have a night shift. Busy ako. Pwede next time nalang?"
I tried my best to convince him that I can't go to his promotion party because I have a job. Being a freshmen in residency makes my life even more chaotic!
"Si LJ din naman may shift, e. Bakit ikaw lang hindi nakakagawa ng paraan?" He pouted now. "Ngayon lang naman ako nanghingi ng pabor 'di ba?"
My gaze turned to LJ, pleading him for help. But instead of helping me, he just shrugged his shoulders off, laughing like an idiot.
"I wish Laurie's here." I heard CJ whispered. Patayo na siya sa inuupuan, plano nang umalis sa cafe.
We're in a cafe across the hospital, nakasuot pa nga kami ng doctor's gown. Tumawag kasi siya sa amin ni LJ na kailangan niya raw kaming makausap, excited na excited pa dahil tungkol daw 'yon sa promotion niya. Until I told him that I can't go.
"Oo na, oo na!" Napasinghap ako. Hindi ko talaga 'to matiis. Mag-iisip nalang ako nang irarason kay Dr. Celis para makaalis ako. "Anong oras ba?"
Kaagad lumiwanag ang mukha niya nang mapatingin sa akin. He looked like he won a lottery ticket. His dimples were showing and his eyes were almost not visible due to his smile.
"Seryoso na 'yan?!" He tried to confirmed.
"Oo nga." Nginitian ko siya, paulit-ulit na tumatango para lang maniwala na siya.
"Yey!" He clapped his hands like a child. He's cute tho. "7 PM at Deca Homes. Okay?"
Tumayo na siya at nakipag fist bump kay LJ bago lumapit sa akin para halikan ang noo ko. He waved his hand at us like he's saying his final goodbye. That made me anxious for a whole day.
"CJ looks weird today." I opened up to LJ. I looked at him with concerned eyes. "Hindi naman siya ganoon dati, 'di ba? Why does it makes me anxious? It's like he's bidding his last goodbye."
Napatigil kami sa paglalakad matapos lumagpas sa entrance ng hospital. LJ stared at me for a few seconds before he decided to mess my hair. "You're overthinking. Just chill. Ganoon lang 'yon kasi gusto niyang kasama tayo sa celebration niya. Na promote siya, 'di ba?"
"But--"
"He's just fine, Issa. Stress ka lang." He assured me with a smile.
When night came, I rushed out of the hospital because I'm already late. Hindi ko nakasabay si LJ dahil may tinatapos pa siya. I would like to wait for him but he strictly told me that he can be fine but CJ won't be if I'll be late.
"I'm so sorry, Ynna. Just for today, okay? Babawi ako promise." I gave her a flying kiss before I ran across the street to find a jeep.
"I got you!" She shouted for me to hear her.
