They were all back at the institute. Exhausted by the fight they all retired to their rooms except Ria who had disappeared once she got back. Isabelle was in the medical room, sleeping. She had been looking at some blood that she had brought back from the scene when the demon cut Ria. When she heard a loud boom. She looks up in surprise. She rushes out the door and finds Jace, Clary and Alec running towards the entrance too.
"so, you guys heard it too." Isabelle says as she slows her run into a jog.
"it's kind of hard to not hear a loud booming noise." Jace says sarcastically as they run towards the entrance. They soon arrive at the entrance ready for a fight to find Maryse and Robert lightwood.
"glad to see that you are all able to protect the institute when its needed." Robert says as he looks at them with a humorous voice.
"mm what is that smell." Maryse says. "is someone cooking?"
"it must be Maxine." Alec says.
"Maxine?" Robert asks.
"yeah she is staying for a while. She says she is just passing through." Maryse explains as they walk towards the kitchen.
Ria was in the kitchen. She had changed her boots to green slippers and she no longer wears her jacket but an apron. They could hear the music blaring out her headphones.
Alec and Jace try to hold in their laughter while she danced around the kitchen. Isabelle taps her on the shoulder and Ria jumps a little.
"jeez." Ria exclaims as she turns and sees Isabelle. She takes off her headphones as she asks, "warn someone will you."
"Maxine, this is my father." Isabelle turns showing her dad.
"Robert."
"hello." She says awkwardly. "you guys hungry? I made dumplings."
"uh yeah I could eat." Robert says. Alec grabs plates and cutlery and they all sit down around the island. "So, Maxine how long are you thinking of staying?"
"umm I have some things I need to take care of and people to see and then I will be out of here in no time." Ria sits the dumplings down then taking off her apron and letting her jumper slightly fall off her shoulder showing her birthmark.
"what is your name again?" Maryse asks sternly.
"Maxine. Why?"
"what is going on?" Isabelle asks eyeing Ria and her mum.
"you just look familiar."
"uh I don't think so."
"you tattoo its quite unique."
Ria hastily wraps herself up as Alec responds, "oh it's not a tattoo."
Maryse says she quickly picks up a knife and throws it at Ria scrapping Ria's face.
"mum, what the hell?" Alec and Isabelle shout. Clary just gasps and Jace looks frozen in shock.
They look towards Ria. Jace grabs Her a towel but when she takes her hand off the cut there is not cut, no damage. "what the hell." Jace says.
"now I will ask you again who you are." Maryse says her voice growing louder now standing.
