the princess and the knight

They all sat down on the library couches. Robert, Maryse, Izzy, Simon and Clary on one, opposite them sat Magnus, Joycelyn and Luke. Alec and Jace stood to Magnus's right and Jo stood by the fireplace. Jo broke the silence. "He doesn't have his memories of you, he never has. MJ a spirit before Max."

"what are you talking about?" Clary asked not looking at Jo.

"uh... this is going to take a while." Jo said looking straight at her, he was surprised that she would even speak to him.

"well get on with it." Jace said looking between the two Morgenstern's. Jo looked towards Magnus and he got up and returned with a book, opening up a page with a picture of three angles.

"Ria's ancestors-

"no, Izzy."

"no?"

"that is Ria. Her sister is Alina and brother was Johnathon, the first Shadowhunter." There was silence around the room, but everyone faces were filled with shock. "I'm sure you know the story she told about her ancestors." He was received by some of them nodding. "well that story is actually her story. Lilith was angry that god let the three of them become the protectors. So, Lilith captured Ria and made what she is-

"which is what?" Luke said speaking for the first time.

Jo was about to say that she was an angel when Jace shocked them all saying, "she is basically every single downworlder."

"you knew."

"you say that surprise." Jace said looking at Jo with a hint of superiority in his voice.

"she never tells people and lets them remember."

"she did that with me." Simon said. "she told me she had a memory of you, but she made me forget this morning."

"memory of me?" Jo said astonished and a hint of hope sparked in him.

"don't flatter yourself. She woke up shaking and scared." Simon said cruelly.

"so, what can she do?" Luke asked.

"she has magic from warlocks, heightened senses from the werewolves and vampires, immortal from warlocks and vampires. Ability to turn into a wolf at any time. Connected to nature from fairies. Still has to drink blood. Is a day lighter. Has patterns up her right arm as a birthmark given to her as a reminder that she is a gift from god, and he let her live so she could do good." Magnus said after taking a big breath.

"how didn't we know of her? or what she truly was?" Joycelyn asked.

"she can take people's memories and give them back-

"like what she did now, how we can now remember everything she made us forget." Simon said.

"she did that accidently. She would have never wanted you to remember what she had taken away. That's why she does it. To make your lives easier. She erased your minds after she left you." Jo said indicating towards Maryse. "she made you remember when she came back to the institute."

"how did you know that." Robert asked.

"I was there."

"how?"

"I was a ghost. MJ and I are connected to her. I don't know how MJ is connected to her. We don't know how but we are."

"how long has she had Max- I mean... MJ? He said he knew her for over 10 years, but Max hasn't been dead for that long."

"since she lost the rest of her family."

"and you?"

"since I died."

"how did she get MJ?"

"she lost her family in a war. It was the Shadowhunter against Lilith, they were trying to save her. Her brother was killed. Her and her sister tried to escape back to heaven, and she was unable to leave earth as she had demon blood. Her sister pleaded that she would return to be with her sister, god denied her request, but took pity on Ria and gave her MJ. That is all I know or everything I have heard from downworlders and herself, she is a very popular legend in the downworld."

"why haven't we heard the story till now." Alec asked.

"in the late 1600's she was found out by Shadowhunter and she was torcher for her gifts. She ended up making the Shadowhunter's that harmed her forget and die. So, she made sure that she was only known to downworlders and no Shadowhunter's. She let some shadow hunters remember her. The Lightwood's, the Fairchild's, the Branwell's and some silent brothers."

"that's how we recognised who she was because of the stories of a great friend and helper she was to our families when they were last all together in the London institute." Maryse said.

"what of him?" Izzy asked.

"She thought she was able to tell Jonathon because he had demon blood."

"she told me." Jace said.

"how did you to meet." Alec asked his eyes glued to the flames.

"we were young. Very young maybe five or six. I was in the woods and I came across a wolf. I tried to kill her, but she wouldn't attack she just looked at me curiously and turned back to human form. It was embarrassing to say the least me being five and her being eighteen and naked. Anyway, I was so scared I started to cry, and she gave me a gift of a wooden sword. I watched as she grew vines of clothing around her and after that day, we became friends."

"are you still evil."

"no. I'm not the Johnathon that died in your arms after being stabbed no more demon blood in me."

"can we trust you."

"I would hope so, but I really don't care what you think only that you will respect that I want to look after my friend and then leave once she is better."

"why don't you leave now." Alec asked coldly.

Jo tried to hide his pain the best he could but was unable. "leave without her? never."

2 weeks later

Jo watched Ria. Her skin so saturated compare to her vibrant hair. She was so still, if her chest didn't rise and fall ever so slightly, she could have been dead. 'After everything they had been through, she couldn't end like this. No, she would pull through.' Jo thought. He carefully picked up her hand. It scared him that their temperatures were the same.

Ria had been saying the names Alina and Jonathon every so often. He knew she wasn't dreaming of him she was dreaming of her brother and sister. Rightly so she should be able to in this state almost at the edge of death. He just hoped he chose here instead of there. she may not have a choice; her time might have truly come for her to go. But she had to keep fighting and she would if not for him then for MJ.
