My Fictional Reality

When we broke, it was hell

More pain than words can tell

I thought that the sky itself would fall

Never again would I stand tall

So near yet so far

So close yet apart

Two hearts torn in half

Thrown out like unruly riff raff

We said things we never should

Pushed it as far as we could

Broke everything we had

Yet somehow stayed connected by a single strand

Finally, you took a stand

Came back, grabbed my hand

And here we are today

The black and white have faded to gray

Am I awake or asleep

A shepherd or a sheep?

Are you really here with me?

Or are you my fictional reality?

This seems too good to be

A sight I thought I'd never see

But, are you really here with me?

Or are you my fictional reality?

I dream a dream so true

One of me and you

One where we're strong as steel

One where back, you won't reel

But that's all it is, a dream

And just like a bucket of rocky road ice cream

It has to end soon

All that's left is to lick the spoon

And as I wake, here's what I see

You're not here next to me

Things look worse in the morning light

As my hopes again take flight

Never to fulfil, never to realize

That all I had for you, was love in my eyes

But it just wasn't enough, I guess

And now I have these wounds to redress

So yes, I was asleep

You were the shepherd, I was a sheep

You were never really here with me

All you were, is my fictional reality

This was too good to be

A sight I was never meant to see

You were never really here with me

All you were, is my fictional reality
