"Go with me?" "As long as you hold my hand."
Holding hands they walked through the park.
The sun was shining bright on them. Not a cloud in the sky. Making everything around them more visible.
Which only meant that they could see all the birds and ducks atop the small lake.
She felt him tense and grasp her hand tighter.
"Babe, really?"
"They're evil little things, Clary!"
At that she let her laughter out, unable to contain it inside any longer.
"It's not funny."
"I know baby. It's so not funn..."
Her laugh slipped through her sentence.
Jace just glared at her but still held her hand in his.
Once out of view from the lake he let out a breath that she didn't know he was holding.
"Honestly, babe. Don't you find it a little ironic?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Your irrational fear of ducks."
"I don't have a ..."
She gave him a knowing look.
"You fight all kinds of demons daily and yet a small animal frightens you?"
"It's different. They stare at you with their beady little eyes. And sharp teeth, just waiting to bite you with their long bills."
He shuddered at the thought.
"Come on. Let's get you some food and we can calm you down." She kissed him lightly and together they made their way to a little cafe together.
