Miki was now 1 year and 3 months. Levi was with her in the garden. The weather was good but not too hot. Miki could stand already. Levi sat on his knees in the grass with Miki in front on him. She was holding his hands to stay standing. Armin was in the garden too, he looked at them. Levi had really changed since Miki was there. He was a lot more happy and he was nicer too. It was good to see he had something to live for again.

Levi stood up and grabbed both Miki’s hands. And slowly he did a step backwards. Miki did a step as well and giggled. Levi smiled and he tried to let her take a few more steps. Miki walked with him. She giggled and smiled. 'papa' Levi sits down again and looked at her. He loved her, then he realized he never said that with words. Someone came to him. ‘Corporal, we need you at the field.’ Levi nodded and the man walked away. Levi looked at Miki. ‘I have to go for a while.’ Miki looked at him. 'papa good luck' Levi smiled soft and kissed her forehead. ‘I love you Miki.’ He stood up. ‘Can you take care of her?’ He asked Armin. 'wuv you' Miki said. Armin nodded. 'of course.' And Levi walked away.

Years passed and Miki grew up. She was 7 years old now. She was on her way to her father's office as a surprise. When she peeked around the door she saw he was kicking someone. The guy looked like a criminal. She didn't know her dad was that hard on criminals...but something in his eyes was different. It was sadness...he probably missed Petra. Miki and Levi hardly ever talked about her mother, but she knew he missed her very much. He was probably taking his sadness out by kicking this criminal… The criminal stood up and run away. Levi sits down behind his desk. He lay his head in his hands. First it was quiet but then Miki heard a sound she never heard from her father. He cried. Miki was shocked. Was he really crying? He still missed her didn't he...even though it had been so long...She slowly walked in and put a hand on his back. 'dad? ...it'll be okay...I think she's watching us and she's proud...you raised me...so she's proud of you...I'm sure.’ For the first time Levi shook her off. ‘Not now Miki.’ Miki looked at him. 'I know you're sad...I learned that if you're sad someone needs to give you a big teddy bear hug.' she said and hugged him. Levi removed her arms. ‘Not now.’ He said again. Miki looked at him with sad eyes. Then she sat on his desk, crossed her arms and pouted. 'Be happy you got to meet her...I don't even know her..' she said and hid her eyes. Levi stood up. ‘That’s enough. Leave.’ Miki looked at him with tears. 'You never even talk about her! You're keeping your sad feelings inside instead of doing something about it!' she said and jumped off the desk. A tear fell down her cheek. 'You're selfish to keep all your memories about her to yourself.' she said and walked to the door. 'If I don't have a mom then it's fine if I don't have a dad either...I don't want a dad who is mean and selfish!' she said and ran away crying.

Levi felt his heart shatter. Was he going to lose her? If that would happen he would be alone again. Miki had called him mean and selfish. How long did she feel like that already? He didn’t do any good.

Miki ran to her room and sat on her bed. She curled up in the blankets and cried. Levi never talked about Petra. But she had to know...what kind of person was her mother? She didn't even know. Yet Levi had actually known her and had memories to think about. Miki had nothing. She could only use her imagination. In her dreams her mother was back and she was nice and caring. Was she like that in real life?

Levi was crying. Why didn’t he see what Miki wanted? She was right, he was selfish and mean. but how could he stop with that? If he talked about Petra he felt depressive. Miki was the only one he had left. And if was depressive how could he take care of her? But if he didn’t say anything she would be even more angry. He didn’t know what to do.

Miki stood up. She felt guilty for saying that to her father... He was the one who raised her even though he was so busy after all...and he was the one who missed her mother most because he had actually known her. Slowly she walked back to his office. She peeked around the door with dried tears on her cheeks. 'dad?' she asked soft. It was almost a whisper. Levi looked up with empty eyes. ‘Yes?’ Miki slowly came in and closed the door. 'I'm sorry...you're not selfish...you're the best dad I could wish for...I love you...I'm sorry...I should've known it was painful to think about.' she said and tears fell from her face again. Levi walked to her and whipped her tears away. ‘No, I’m sorry. I should have told you more about your mom.’ Miki hugged him. 'I don't want you to be angry at me...I want you to be happy...' ‘I’m not angry.’ Levi said. Miki smiled. 'I love you dad' ‘I love you too.’ He answered.
