𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑖𝑒 : 𝑡𝑒𝑛
i was right. i wasn't getting out of going to the stupid football game. despite having a mutual dislike with most of my year, football games were actually usually fun. however, i knew tonight was going to suck considering caleb was one of the team's key players and well, no doubt he'd blank me again.
i didn't feel like going, but kenzie had made it clear that i didn't really have a choice.
"wipe that frown off of your face" she taunts, hovering behind me as her last hazel curl falls from the iron. i sit in front of her full length mirror that slides open to reveal her first closet. yes, she has two closest, one for shoes and one for clothes. again, her family lives in a founder area.
"do i have to come?" i gumble as she pulls me to my feet.
"you already know the answer to that"
i roll my eyes visibly as she pulls me out of her room and down the stairs.
the ride there felt longer than it had been the past few weeks. maybe it's because something wasn't sitting right. i knew there was no point to going, i would just be ignored by caleb and the fear of caleb shouting at me infront of everyone didn't appeal.
kenzie pulled the car to a stop quicker than i'd wanted. she hurried me out of the car, insisting we're going to be late when really, we had at least five minutes to spare.
as predicted, we were early. despite being pretty much the only ones there yet, kenzie insists we sit at the front of the stands. it sounds stupid, but i didn't want a good view of the pitch tonight. i didn't want to see my brother strutting onto the pitch, happily, while it felt as if there was nothing left for me anymore.
within the next five minutes, i was almost astonished at how quickly the stands filled up. people pass, all greeting kenzie on their way before heading further up. except, one girl stops.
her platinum, straight hair falls just past her shoulders, aligning with the layers of gold necklaces she had on. from a distance, she didn't look that pale, yet up close, her sea green eyes make her look almost ghostly. 𝙖𝙡𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩. she had tints of rose filling her cheeks, bringing her sweet smile to life.
"hey lilia" kenzie smiles, her voice softer than usual. lilia's smile widens and the two begin talking. i try not to be nosey, but the pink tint that had begun to fill kenzie's cheeks made me suddenly interested.
i didn't want to be that straight friend, the one who presumed their friend likes someone purely because they were talking in a slightly flirty manner. it's like when everyone presumed you're in love with your guy best friend, it's annoying and unneeded.
so i redirect my attention.
the stands have almost filled now and we're probably minutes away from kickoff, put people are still trying their best to squeeze in.
my eyes find lauren and instantly skim past her, searching for johnny, just incase. luckily, it seems the witch came with her friends and not her family.
why he would be at his old school's football match, i had no idea, but if i was going to see him again, at least this time i'd had a heads up.
the pit in my stomach from earlier hadn't fully settled since my eyes landed on him, hours before. i can hear kenzie's voice in the back of my head, telling me to just drop it. he was probably just here visiting his dad, right?
he better be, for his sake.
"it was nice meeting you, annie" lilia's mellow voice calls, bringing me back to reality. i quickly offer her a small smile before she turns and disappears further up the stands.
kenzie's lips remain in a wide smile and i decide to be that straight friend, in return for all the dumb hayden comments.
"so, lilia then. a friend or a girlfriend?" i smirk, watching her eyes roll instantly. i bug her for the next few minutes and just when it seems she's starting to crack, we hear the crowd begin to cheer as cheerleaders flood into the field.
"we're not done talking about this" i tease, her cheeks still filled with colour.
"shut up, the games starting" she groans, refusing to answer anything else.
the cheerleaders do their thing before welcoming the players onto the pitch. the kickoff then follows and before i knew it, half time approaches.
i catch kenzie's glance following a blonde girl at the other end of the stands, making her way down to the food and toilets early, just before the flood of half time. the blonde, was undoubtedly, lilia.
"yep, definitely not 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 friends" i tease, poking my elbow into the side of kenzie's ribs, to which she scowls.
"look, it's not that easy" she sighs. i roll my eyes.
"stop making excuses and go and talk to her!" i say, standing up and hurrying kenzie out of her seat. and she does, with a giggy step in her walk.
halftime comes minutes after and i patiently wait for kenzie to return before getting my own food. by the time she returns, halftime has come to an end but I'm sure they'll be food left over and still for sale. so, i make my way down and reach the food stands just in side.
i decide on a hotdog and head towards there promptly. they looked as if they were about to close just after handing the previous costumer their order.
"are you still open?" i call, only just getting there in time. the strawberry blonde cashier nods, a smile meeting her rosy cheeks. she then takes my order and turns to begin preparing it when something catches her glance.
"i'm sorry sir, but we're closed" the cashier says apologetically.
"that's a shame cause i really like hotdogs" johnny orlando's voice calls.
