Chapter 38
Amaan
Laylah had gone and it feels like she has taken all my happiness with her. She has been texting me and sending me pictures of her having a good time. My phone buzzes I pick it and swipe into Whatsapp to see it's a picture of her sitting in a boat at Dubai souk. She always did prefer the simpler things in life.
I put my phone away and slip my shoes on. Umer had called me over and said it was urgent, hopefully it isn't bad news. I was already worried about that moron Zaviyar being around Laylah without me or Umer I didn't want anything else going wrong.
"Salam alaikum" I say as I reach the living room. Yusuf, Haider and Umer are sitting on the sofas with Arfan in casual clothes. They all reply back to me. "Amaan, I have something for you hopefully it will clear everything up as to why you are here" He says standing up and moves towards the table. I realise he is wearing casual clothes too, which is weird for him because he normal is at work and in a business suit.
"This is for you, open it read it and you'll know. The rest of us need to add some stuff into the car, Yusuf, Arfan come help me." He says handing me the envelope and walking out.
I open the envelope and take out the contents. As I read through the note a cheesy grin appears on my face. Laylah has arranged for us to go on a camping trip, apparently the rest knew about it and it was meant to be a surprise for me since my birthday was in two days' time which, I actually had forgotten.
"So, pyari hai na meri bhabi" I hear Haidi's annoying voice. "Chup kar" I say putting the note back into the envelope. "What does it say in the love letter?" He says winking at me. "It says don't take Haider." I mess around with him. "Yea right, she has a soft corner for me." He says with a stupid grin on his face. "Just pray that I get a Laylah too" He says slinging his arm around my shoulder. "There is only one Laylah, and she is mine." I say with confidence and push his arm off my shoulder. "Oho Majnoo, did you tell her you love her, did she say it back?" He asks quickly. "No but..." He cuts me off. "Then how can you sa..... Shit, you dog. You kissed her didn't you?" He says bopping his head up and down. "Keep it down you idiot, do you want me killed" I say in a hush tone, I didnt want Umer hearing the rubbish coming out of Haidi's mouth. "I want all the details once we are alone" He says walking towards the door. "Jee acha Phupho" I say to him jokingly.
We get there and I actually realised that Arfan and Umer were such easy guys to get along with. Arfan was recently married, apparently it was Umer who helped him get married. Umer is such a good guy and he can do anything, I hope he reacts positively once I tell him my intentions about Laylah. Will he? Its different when it's your own sister, I guess? I wouldn't know but? "What's bothering you" Umer asks as he hands me a plate full of food. Me and Arfan had collected the wood and lit the fire and Umer and Haider cooked the food and Yusuf will be on cleaning duty.
"Nothing, just thinking about life" I lie to him. "I sometimes don't know what to say to you, you've lead such a different life to all of us, but also I know how it's like to have your dad around but not have him with you." He continues as he sits down next to me gracefully. "You get used to it, its easier because you don't have anyone to disappoint and no responsibilities that's got to be effortless." I say smiling. "Its not a girl you're thinking about is it? Its just Arfan would smile like you do" He laughs. "What about you, don't you have a girl, you're the typical guy girls fall for" I try and bring the attention back to him. "I don't believe in love." He says and smiles. "Come lets go and sit with the rest food is getting cold. Haider is going to make tea, although I don't think its going to be edible." He laughs getting up.
To say the camping trip was going to be something I was going to remember for a long time was an understatement. It was nice hanging out with the lads, talking about sports and things I normally wouldn't with Laylah, since she was the only person other than Haidi I would hang out with.
