Chapter 44
Laylah
I didn't know what to expect. My heart was drumming in my chest so quickly I could hear the beats so loudly in my ears. How was Amaan? Was he even conscious? How hurt was he? "Look Laylah, I know you are worried about him, try not take too much stress. It's not good for you." My brother says as he types away on his phone. "I'm not worried." I reply back, lying.
"I hope he is isn't hurt too much; I honestly feel bad believing Zaviyar's words. He was family, I didn't think he would stab me in the back like that." He says putting his phone into the inside pocket of his blazer. "Yusuf didn't tell me Amaan was with them, He said, he had left after I had called him not to get involved." He murmurs to himself. "Bhai, I don't think I'd be here with you, if Amaan hadn't been there. I owe him my life." I say to my brother, unsure how he will take my fondness of Amaan.
"Laylah, you know you can share anything with me, right? I won't judge or stop you from anything unless I thought I was harmful for you, right?" He asks taking my hands in his. Do I tell him that I had fallen in love with Amaan? No, I think I should wait, what if Amaan didn't feel the same way? I didn't want to make it awkward for them to be friends at least. "I know, thank you bhai." I reply back and smile at him.
"Amaan Ullah Zaman" My brother says as we approach the Hospital reception. "Route 213, room B." The receptionist replies with a flirty smile. I wanted to shout at her and say 'Erm, gross! He is my brother can you not do that please' but I refrain and walk away quickly.
Once we get to the room Amaan is in we are told by the Doctor that only two patients are allowed at a time. My brother knocks on the door and I walk in behind him. My eyes connect with the black orbs that had me longing for his touch. The dark circles under his eyes tell a story of tiredness and my heart sinks into my stomach. It takes all my strength not to run up to him and hug him.
Amaan
My eyes flick towards the door. I see a beautiful innocent angel dressed in white walk towards me. Concern dripping from her face. I want to run and hug her and tell her not to worry or cry, that I was okay and I'd take a million bullets before I'd let anyone harm her.
"Salam alikum, hero." Umer smiles at me.
"Walekumsalam." I reply and smile back. "We'll just wait outside, come Haider." Yusuf says standing up. "Yusuf, I need to talk to you. I'll be out in a while if thats okay?" Yusuf acknowledges Umer's request in a nod.
"So, how are you feeling?" Umer asks me motioning for Laylah to sit down on the chair next to my bed. "I'm fine, really but they don't let me leave." I joke. "Look Amaan, this isn't the place or the time, but I'm really grateful to you for what you did for Laylah. Honestly, I can't ever repay you. Ever." He says and places his hand on my shoulder and squeezes it. "I didn't want you getting involved and getting hurt either. You didn't listen to me. So I'll have to punish you." He continues. I open my mouth to retaliate but he beats me to it. "You're going to have to come back to work and bodyguard this annoying human again." He says looking at Laylah and chuckles.
"Bhaaiii!." I hear her speak for the first time and truthfully its music to my ears. "Anyways, you two catch up, I need to speak to Yusuf." He says and leaves.
I look towards the most beautiful girl I have ever seen only to find she was already staring at me. I missed her. Her presence, her voice, her smell. Everything. All my tiredness washes away when I see her.
I give her a lop-sided smile and all of a sudden, she starts crying. "Hey" I say and get out slowly, from the hospital bed I had occupied for the past few days. "No, Laylah. Baby please don't cry." I place my hands around her shoulders. Look I'm absolutely fine." I say wiping away her tears. "I was so scared. Amaan, what if something had happened to you?" She says standing up. "Nothing would have happened. Besides, if anything did, you'd have finally gotten rid of me as you always wanted to." I say and hug her from the back. I wince out a little as my wound hurts. "Amaan! You're hurting, please lay down." She says and holds my hand leading me towards the bed. "I'm fine. Now stop worrying." I say and puller her towards me and wrap my arms around her waist and place my head on her stomach, whilst she stands beside me.
"Can I. Erm. Can I see it?" She asks concerned. "Promise you wont faint, its gruesome!" I joke. "Its not funny Amaan, Jao main nahi dekhti." She says and pouts. I want to kiss her, but I can't risk it, her brother literally a few feet away from us. "Okay, okay. But only if you promise to kiss it better." I wink at her. "You wish ACE." She says and unties the hospital gown and slowly pushes it down from my shoulder. "Its bandaged. But its fine. In a few days you wont be able to tell. Even now, see I can't even feel it." I say flapping my arm around. "Amaan, don't, you'll hurt yourself." She scolds me, concern dripping in her voice.
She slowly places her hand on my bare shoulder and caresses it ever so gently. Her touch electrifies me and I can't but help close my eyes on the contact, taking in her warmth.
"You promise, it doesn't hurt?" She asks as if inquiring for a guarantee. "I promise." I say sincerely looking at her. She bends her head down and places a kiss right on the bandage. I tried my best to avoid it, but it was getting unbearable now so I pull her by her arm and grab her face, smashing my lips on hers. I kiss her like a starved man who hadn't had water or food for days.
"Laylah" I say breaking the kiss and hold her face in my hands. My left thumb gently rubbing her lips and cheek. "I missed you. There is so much I want you to know, but it has to wait. Just a few more days baby. Do you trust me?"
"With my life." She replies and hugs me tightly.
