Chapter 47
Amaan
Shit! He is going to kill me. "Amaan, can I have word, NOW" Umer says giving me a stern look and walking off. "Sure" I call out after him.
I turn to face a now worried Laylah. "Don't worry, everything is going to be fine." I reassure her, taking her hands in my own and giving them a squeeze.
I quickly descend the stairs. Whatever Umer says, or anyone says, I'm not giving up on Laylah. I can't, not now, knowing she loves me just as much. I walk into the living room and spot Umer sitting on the sofa, his head in his hands. He lifts his head when he hears my footsteps. "Come, sit." He says straightening himself. Not knowing what to expect I sit on the sofa opposite him.
Is he going to tell me how he is going to kill me? Well technically he has already told me how he would kill me, maybe he will tell me the date. As much as he is a nice guy, he can be pretty scary and shrewd.
"I know what's going on, I would have appreciated it if you would have spoken to me first. It would have been more traditional, and it wouldn't have felt like you didn't go behind my back" Umer say disconsolately.
"I understand how you must be feeling and I wasn't sure how Laylah had felt about..... erm.. about it" I stuttered and struggled to think of the correct words. How would I tell him, his innocent younger sister had fallen in love with me?
"And, does she?" He asked. His tone filled with uncertainty and confusion. I nodded my head at him, letting him know the answer to his question. He let out a long sign and rested his head on the back of the sofa and pinched the top of his nose.
"Look, I understand you're stressed out because of all this, but you have to believe me when I tell you that I love her a lot. I would do anything for her. I promise to keep her happy, to be best of my ability." I speak out all the words that come into my mouth without thinking to much about them. What if he denies me Laylah? What then? Would she take his side? Shit!
"I need you to leave. I need to speak to Laylah. Please don't meet up with her or come around until I have come to a decision. I hope you understand that this is nerve wracking for me, she isn't just my younger sister, she is like a daughter to me. It's always been me and her." He says standing up and straightening out his jacket, turning and facing the window.
I walk out of the living room to come face to face with Arfan, who gives me a re-assuring smile. I smile back and walk out towards the entrance of the house. I feel someone pulling on the sleeve of my shirt, I turn to find Laylah, who instantly flings her arms around my neck. "Don't worry, everything is going to be fine" She says, repeating my words back to me. She places a kiss on my cheek and walks inside the house.
A few days pass and my eyes keep flickering to my phone. I cant wait for Uni to re-start again at least I will be able to see her there. After everything that has happened, I thought to continue with my course. There were only 4 months until its completion so there was no point in giving up now. Haider has been around and has been giving me the most bizarre advice and ideas.
"Sach main, you'll look like Ranveer Singh on his wedding." He says enthusiastically showing me some pictures. "I don't want to Ranveer Singh and I really don't want to wear anything he has worn; the man has extravagant taste" I say placing two plates of freshly cooked Butter chicken on the table. I'm not so good at cooking naan so we had to get some from the shop which Haider Picked up on his way. "Waise, Bhabhi wont have to worry about starving, you cook pretty decently now" He says stuffing his face with the food. "Careful idiot you're going to choke." I say handing him a glas of water.
I wait at the university entrance for the love of my life. Honestly, it's only been 7 minutes but it feels like hours. I'm about to head inside when I see her Tesla pull up, a smile spreads on my face automatically. "Laylahhhh!!" I hear Zara scream from behind me and hug Laylah. "Omg, how are you? My brother told me what had happened. So sorry, I was in Florence, otherwise I'd had come to see you. Only got back yesterday. Are you okay?" She asks concerned. "I'm fine, Zara, honestly." She says and looks towards me. She smiles are me and I see a blush creep up her cheeks. She is so beautiful. My chest expands with pride as I look at her. How could someone so perfect be mine?
