Chapter 45
Laylah
Amaan has been acting weird. Is it because he finds no purpose in being around me because there really is no security threat anymore? Maybe he really wants to go back to actual work. I heard him talk to my brother about joining or buying a gym. I really do want him to start working towards his dream.
"Haider?" I call out to a remarkably busy Haider who was so busy watching Peaky Blinders that he didn't realise that he had eaten two whole packets of popcorn. "I don't understand the whole infatuation with this show. Apparently Amaan watched a whole season in one day!"
"Bhokar!" Sophia slams a cushion on his head to get his attention. "Kya hai moti!" he responds and shoves one back at her pausing the programme.
"What do you think about my idea, you both didn't really give me any reactions." I ask dejected, looking at them hopefully.
"Laylah, its been so long. I don't know if you should really think about doing something like that." Haider says stuffing his mouth again. "I think it's a great idea. It might even allow Amaan to move on fully." Sophia says. "Well, you don't know what you are talking about. Pass me the coke." Haider says and taunting Sophia jokingly. "Chup kar, Badtameez." Sophia says opening the can and drinking from it. "That's mine, moti kaheen ki." Haider replies back and they start bickering.
I had asked them if they thought it would be a good idea to have Amaan and his Dad sit down and talk things out. I had realised how important it was. When I had gone back to Dubai with Dad, I actually realised why we was there for so long. He dad a whole new family and I felt so sad and disconsolate, but Umer Bhai had kept me company since I had gotten back home safely, and he was there for me. Although Amaan has Haider he doesn't really talk about things like this with him.
"Laylah, maybe you should put it on the back burner for few more days. Maybe until after the weekend?" Sophia says. "Is something happening on the weekend?" I ask, did I miss something. "NO!" both Haider and Sophia say at the same time. "erm, Ookaayy." I say looking from Sophia to Haider. Something was definitely happening, and they didn't want me to know.
My phone buzzed; it was Amaan. Asking me a random question again. He had been asking me random questions for the past few weeks. Today it was about my favourite time of day, night. I preferred the night, being alone with my thoughts, cuddled in bed with a good book and some coffee or maybe hot chocolate, yes definitely hot chocolate.
Amaan was had gone to his physiotherapy appointment with Ollie. I didn't realise he had such a large group of friends, but then Amaan was such an amazing person which is why I fell in love with him, I think to myself and smile. "Lo jee, thinking about my loser brother again." Haider jokes looking at me. "Haider, I'll kick your butt if you call Amaan a loser again!" I say a little irritated. "Oho, whats up huh, missing Majnoo are you?" This time its Sophia that teases me. "You two are terrible, you fight and argue, but when it comes to teasing me, you both are on the same team!" I look at them irritated. "Yuck!" They both say simultaneously.
Amaan, was on sick leave and was going to be back on Monday which was 3 days away. I missed him even though we talked on the phone till the early hours of the morning. The amount of times I actually was about to tell him how I felt, but I'd feel shy and a little embarrassed even though I had shared everything with him. He even knew when my period was due and being a Pakistani girl that was a lot of information to tell someone you weren't married to. He had sent me chocolates and candy to make me feel better last week when he realised, I had period cramps. It was a little awkward for me, but it made me feel really special.
Tomorrow was Saturday and Sophia wanted to have a full gir'ls day out, because well she wanted to celebrate my freedom. Going out without Amaan was weird for me, I remember the last time I had gone out with Sophia without a guard, that was the day I had bumped into Amaan. A smile appears on my face as I remember the first thing I thought back then was 'Wow, kitna handsome hai', even though I was scared for my life.
"I want to stop by Adidas. Did I tell you Amaan wants to give me self defence lessons?" I say to Sophia was we walk into Selfridges and chuckle at Amaan's silly recommendation. I didn't want to learn any self defence because I wanted Amaan to be with me at all times so he can save me. But then he gave me a long lecture about being an independent strong woman blah blah.
We shopped, ate lunch, and watched a movie. I really wanted to go home but Sophia wanted to shop some more, this girl was worse than me, but she would only window shop. "Soph, I'm tired, we'll come back another day." I moan to her. "Erm, okay. Sure, lets go home." She says looking at her watch.
As we got home it had gotten pretty dark and cold. I wanted to quickly freshen up and pray maghrib as I had missed the other prayers thanks to Sophia. I quickly head up into my room and place the bags into my closet and turn quickly towards my bathroom.
After doing wudu and grabbing a large shawl I enter into my room and freeze. Someone had drawn the curtains and lights were switched off. The door was now closed, and it was pitch black in the room. I couldn't see anything when suddenly I could feel movement beside me, someone was in my room. I was about to say something when a hand clasped around my mouth and another around my waist holding me in place. I think Amaan was right, I should take those self defence lessons.
