Chapter 28

Amaan

Zaviyar has been a thorn in my ass for the past two weeks. He has managed to ask Laylah to take the rest of next week off, so they can 'hang out' at home. Why does it feel like he just wants me away from here? For the past few days he has been picking her and dropping her at uni, asking me to 'follow behind them', as if I didn't know what he meant in his double-meaning words, the bastard. Yesterday, he wouldn't even let Laylah watch a movie with me, he literally asked me to leave from the home cinema because nobody was going to barge In there. I honestly want to punch him.

"Bhai, yaar, don't you know the connection between Khala ka beta and Khala ki beti?" Haider asks stuffing his face with nachos, he had come over to help me with my Saturday deep cleaning ritual. I wonder where he has learnt to eat like that from. "Nope, I don't." I ask uninterested as I finish cleaning and sit down nect to him. "The connection is that, they end up getting married" He says looking at me, laughing. "Bakwas na kar, Haidi" I end up shoving him off the sofa. "Fine don't believe me, I'm telling you Zaviyar is here to take her away, iraday khatarnaak lagte hai" He adds on. "I feel the same, Laylah did say he is acting weirdly, I know it sounds bad but maybe Sophia can help."

I pick my phone and text her. I get a text back from her immediately. "Wait here, I'm going to pick up Sophia, and don't piss her off today." I warn Haider. Sophia and Haider don't really like each other, it's safe to say if you wanted either of them killed, hire the other. They would kill each other instantly.

"Zaviyar and Laylah are cousins, best friends, almost like brother and sister." Sophie says sitting on the sofa. Like brother and sister, what the hell no way! "Mani Bhai, you could have put the dog out, or at least given him a bath, he smells." She says looking at me weirdly. "I don't have a dog, Soph" I ask confused. "I'm talking about this thing you call a brother" She says pointing at Haider. "Hatto yahan se" She says shoving a cushion at him. "Oh hello, it's my house, hissay dar hoon main" Haider says standing up and looking at her. "LOL, have you seen your face, aya bara hissay dar" She says waving him off. "Churail" He says and sits on the opposite sofa. "Dangar" She replies. "STOP, both of you" I say commandingly, annoyed at them.

"What do you mean like brother and sister?" I ask Sophia seriously. "Okay, firstly why are you asking me, has something happened?" She asks concerned. "I have this feeling that something isn't right" I say looking at her. "Oh, the famous Amaan feeling, means it must be true, your intuition is almost always correct, which is a little freakish" Haider says seriously. "Okay, tell me what you've seen or heard that makes you think like that" she looks at me.

"It might be nothing, but he seems controlling, don't wear this, do this, eat this, and he tries to touch her and stuff" I say unsure how that will sound to Sophia. "Touch her? He knows not to touch her, plus he has a girlfriend back in America. I don't understand normally he stays here for a few days and then goes to London to his Chachu's house. Controlling in what way?" She concludes. "He has a girlfriend?" I ask shocked. "Yea" Sophia says, as a matter of factly. "Why is he flirting with Laylah then?" It's more of a statement rather than a question. "Flirting? Are you sure bhai? I'm going to have to pay Laylah a visit, in fact she has invited me and Yusuf over for dinner tomorrow, I'll have to have a look around myself. This is worrying me" She says unhappily. "Oye Bandar, ja kar chai bana mere liye. Don't you ask your guests for tea? hissay dar!" Sophia yells at him and I giggle at his reaction. "Moti, zehar na dal doon" He says as he walks towards the kitchen.

My phone beeps bright and early on Sunday morning. I flip it over to see a text from Laylah. I jump up and open it. She texted me saying Sophia and Yusuf were coming over and she wanted me there too. You don't need to ask me twice, my two best things in the world, Laylah and food. I need to decide what to wear, I smile at myself.
