"youngjae-ah, did you have a first love?"

youngjae choked on his coffee, his eyes wide. "why'd you bring that up out of nowhere?"

i shrugged, putting my hands in my pockets.

"well duh. everyone had one," he gazed at the window dreamily.

"why do you...have that look on your face?" my forehead wrinkled at his strange expression.

"its just- when i think about her my heart feels fuzzy and warm, you know? she's the first person who i felt that way and i would do anything for her. god- she was so adorable,"

is that how jaemin feels when he thinks about her?

"is this about jaemin perhaps?" youngjae snickered with a grin.

"n-no," i stuttered, caught off guard. if everyone had a first love, who was mine? it never really crossed my mind before. sure, i've had a ton of stupid crushes and i tend to fall in love easily but who was the first? who made my heart feel warm and fuzzy? there were a lot but-

"so it is about him,"
-

"ah, that's hot!" i yelped while pulling out the tray of chocolate chip cookies from the oven. letting it cool on the rack, i carried on packing the tuna sandwiches (loaded with tuna and cheese) the way jaemin likes it. grabbing an bag, i threw in some banana milk, sour gummies, and a birthday card.

you might say, im going a little bit overboard, but it has been a long time since i celebrated jaemin's birthday with him. a special sunset picnic is perfect to celebrate our reconciliation.

i originally wanted it to be a surprise, but with our busy schedules it would be better to plan things beforehand. i managed to get an off day although i was a bit reluctant. most importantly, jaemin is also free for the day!

"this is so good," jaemin said with his mouth full of food. disgusting. "you're such a chef, yeonnie,"

"actually- i am a le cordon bleu graduate," i said with a straight face.

  "huh, really?"

unable to carry on my joke, i bursted into fits of giggles at his expression. he totally believed that. picking up the joke, jaemin joined in my laughter.

we sat quietly enjoying the view of the sunset at han river. i've never felt so content just by eating with someone. i don't ever want this to end. until the silence was interrupted by a ringtone from jaemin's cellphone.

  "minyoung?" oh.

"are you hurt anywhere? i'll be there quick," jaemin rushed, picking up his belongings and stood on his feet.

"where are you going?" i asked with my brows furrowed. we've only sat here for 5 minutes.

"it's really important- i'll tell you later," he said quickly before waving goodbye and dashed away.

how big of an emergency could it be?

i sighed, putting away the food i brought into the basket with a frown. as selfish as it sounds, sometimes i wish i could have jaemin all to myself.

  "surprise!"

minyoung stood with a bright smile, a birthday cake with lighted candles in her hands. the other boys were here too, and they burst into laughter at my shocked expression.

"dude, look at him" mark giggled, hitting johnny repeatedly.

i laughed while they started singing happy birthday. it's been so long since someone threw a surprise party for me.

should i text him? i contemplated before reaching for my phone on the nightstand. my fingers hovered over his name.

what if he's still busy with the emergency? did minyoung get hurt really bad?

i huffed, planting my face onto the pillow. youngjae's words about how he'd do anything for his first love appearing at the back of my head. of course he cares about her a lot. what am i doing here thinking our feelings were mutual? im just a friend he grew up with. no romantic feeling whatsoever.

i laid on my back, eyes staring at the ceiling. if only this wasn't one sided.

"where were you just now?" jeno asked as we were cleaning up the mess we made.

"ah i was on a picnic with my yeonnie for like- 5 minutes but then minyoung called me to come here,"

  "and you rushed here?"

"yeah, she said it was an emergency," shrugging my shoulders. immediately, i felt a slap on my shoulder.

"dude, that's not how you do it!" jeno scolded with his hands on his waist.

  "why- what's wrong with that?"

"you seriously don't understand it, do you? you practically ditched her for another girl she might think you have feelings for," jeno grunted.

"how many times do i have to say- i don't like minyoung anymore! i just see her as a friend, nothing more," i whisper-shout.

jeno rolled his eyes before adding, "yeah bro we can tell how head over heels you are for sooyeon from you talking to your damn ryan plushie about her smile every night -but you're missing the point here,"

with crossed arms he continued, "don't you think about how confused she is when a guy she likes suddenly leaves her in the middle of meeting?"

  silence.

  "i ruined it didn't i?"

"not if you make it up to her now,"
