But the moment was shortly interrupted before it could even begin.
A bunch of cars pulled up in front of us, shining their bright car lights in our faces. We both pulled apart, and squinted too see what was actually happening. As soon as the cars stopped, the lights went off and we saw five black mercedes standing right in front of us. And then, out of them, came out a group of men dressed like darkness itself, wearing an eagle shaped mask on their faces.
Ace instantly grew alarmed, his hand resting on the gun tucked in his waist, ready to pull it out and shoot. He pushed me behind him but instead of just standing in front of me like some knight in shining Armor and saving me from the big bad dudes, he placed a gun in my hand. I took it and prepared myself to pull the trigger when time came.
A broad, almost bald but hair on the sides kind of man came forward with a menacing stride towards us. His face was also covered with the same eagle shaped mask. But out of all, his eyes was caught my attention than anything else.
They were a pair familiar pair of smokey, grey eyes.
My eyebrows creased together. I saw Ace pull out his gun and point at the man. The man didn't even care, it seemed like. He leisurely removed his mask and showed an aged face.
"Oh my god Ace, you have grown up so much since the last time I saw you. You are a big man now, not that pathetic little boy anymore who cried every night."
Something was very wrong. Ace didn't speak anything but I could feel the wheels in his head turning. "How are you father?" He asked quietly.
His father gave a small chuckle. "Everything was pretty good before," And suddenly, his face dropped and turned dead serious. "But you decided to meddle and destroy everything."
For the first time I heard Ace burst out cackling, so much devilish undertone to his smooth, soothing voice that I couldn't help but shudder. I couldn't believe he was the same man who was softly asking me if I could let him kiss me. He was a completely different persona now.
"How do you feel now? Do you feel good?" He calmly asked, once his laughter died. "Do you know how I feel? Good. Just like how you felt when you killed mom. Just like how I will feel when I kill you."
His father lips curled up. "Do you think a fucking scum like you will be able to kill me? Just because you hit a jackpot once, doesn't mean you can hit it again."
"Cry about it, father." Ace chuckled. "Fucking cry for all I care."
"It's not me who's going to cry." The man's eyes fell on me. "It's you. When I take this girl with me and make her meet the same fate as her mother."
My eyes widened. I felt a huge rock fall on my chest. "What do you mean?"
"Oh, you didn't tell her about it?" The man taught and I heard Ace suck in a loud breath. "This is going to be more fun now."
There were thirty men surrounding us. There was no way we weren't either getting killed or getting kidnapped. I had no idea what he told about my mother but this was not the time to dwell on that. First, me and Ace had to get out of here. So I discreetly sent a code word for danger to Dom and Joe while Ace and the man interacted.
"Do you think I will let you do anything to her?" Ace asked in a mocking tone, tilting his head to the side.
"Look at us son, there's 30 of us. We will take you down and take her before you could say 'help'." He started boisterously laughing, signalling his men to come forward.
And that's when Ace said. "Go."
And suddenly, a bunch of bullets struck almost half the men right at their hearts. I screeched and jumped back as all the men in front of me fell face forward on the ground. I gaped at Ace, who seemed like he was smiling under the mask. I looked at the terraces of the nearby buildings and saw who were the ones killing almost half of the people.
Snipers.
The rest of the men who were alive had started shooting at us with their own guns. Ace flawlessly managed to aim at every single on of them right in the middle of the forehead. I took hold of my own gun and shot a person that was hiding behind a tree and trying to shoot at Ace.
The old man gave a snarling look at us, barked orders to some men who got the cars ready and he hurried towards it. Ace's eyes with a peculiar madness in them, looked at the man getting farther and farther away and he growled under his breath. "Shoot him." He commended me.
When I was hesitating to do it, he bellowed, "Ava do it!"
I took a deep breath and looked at his retreating figure getting far away from my sight and hurrying in uneven patterns making it tough for me to aim. Still, I concentrated and pulled a trigger. A scream erupted from him.
I could see the blood trickling down his leg. But he still managed to hop a little bit, got in some car and drove away. Ace hissed loudly while his hands shooting the last standing man dead. "Damnit, he got away."
His black t-shirt was soaked in shirt and clung to his body like a second skin, enhancing every ridge and ripple. I gulped as I watched him breath heavily. We both had lines of blood smeared on us.
When he finally calmed down, his eyes turned to me, worry replacing the anger in the them. He dropped his gun and enclosed his arms around me, tightly wrapping me in his warmth. "I am so sorry you had to go through that. Are you okay?"
Still stunned from all of that, I rested my head and tried to calm myself down. "I...yes I am fine...I think so." Closing my eyes, I added, "I have so many damn questions right now Ace and I swear to god if you don't answer them I will shoot you where the sun doesn't shine."
He brushed my hair and even though I just witnessed this man ruthlessly kill a bunch of people, I couldn't help but drown in his soothing embrace. "I will tell you darling. I will tell you everything."
"How were my shooting skills?" I joked lightly. I had killed a man and I wasn't even feeling guilty. Maybe, I was the messed up one all along
He gave a small laugh. "For someone who's not a professional, you did a pretty good job. But I am really surprised that you aren't..."
"...Crying? Breaking down? Just hitting you and calling you a murderer?"
"Yes, that."
"Nah, why would I? What I did was self defence anyways and what you did was save us from going to god knows what hellhole. So I don't think there's any reason for me to be angry." I stated. "But I am going to have a mental breakdown. From all the questions revolving in my head."
"I will answer them all when we get back, I promise."
While I was in his arms I didn't even realise when some men had come and picked up all the dead bodies and cleaned the place like nothing happened. It all happened in the span of fifteen minutes so when I got out of his hug, my jaw dropped at the sight of no bodies on the ground. "What the fuck? Where did they go?"
"My men cleaned them. Such fights happen all the time. So we are always prepared." He explained. "Thank god there aren't any CCTVS here. That would have been extra work."
My eyes stared ahead, fascinated rather than scared by all of this. I turned back at him. He grew tense when he felt my eyes on him and I felt a smirk etching my face. Lifting his mask slightly up so that only his lips were seen by my eyes, I went on my tiptoes and kissed him gently.
He froze. When I pulled back, I gave him a smile, "Thank you."
"For what?" He softly asked.
"For taking caring of me dumbass. For saving me."
He didn't say or do anything for a minute before he stripped his mask off his face and grabbed the back of my neck and said, "I think I love you." before smashing his lips to mine.
