Maria's not here.
The words echoed in his head again and again.
He felt empty like all the air had been sucked out of him. He felt cold, shaky. And then he heard the voice. The sweet, childish voice. Maria, he thought. He knew.
He spun around to see Jane hugging her with all her might. But his eyes were focused on the girl Jane was hugging. He took it all in as if he would never see her again. Her red hair reached her shoulders, her fringes falling on her soft brown eyes.
Fire, he thought, her hair looks like fire, beautiful, strong fire.
There she was, laughing and talking just like she always had.
She was right there.
She was the same Maria, and yet she was'nt.
Something was different about her.
Will stared ahead at her, expressionless.
At the moment, he was only sure of one thing.
It was not just an earthquake.
