"...you don't know how it's like to be me. I never ask for toys like the other kids, for new dolls Halmeoni bought me, dresses or whatever. I only want-"
"You don't have to come, Eonnie."
Lisa's voice was filled with concern, pulling her out from her deep thoughts.
Turning her head from the window, Jennie smiled at the younger woman, trying to give her some reassurance.
"I have to. And it won't be long, Lisa-ya," she said, playing with the hem of her dress, wondering if she had overdressed for the night. "It's not like I'm gonna hang around for the night. I'll be back after staying for some chat and basically only shows up for the sake of friendship."
"But you could always say no to her, right?" Lisa argued, her eyes were still focusing on the road in front of her. They just got back from Jisoo's house, without the owner of said house even knowing that they got into her house. Fortunately, Lisa knew where she usually hides her key: right under the key lime potted plant on her terrace.
(See what Jisoo did there? Key lime. Her 4D's mind at work)
They had to break in because Jisoo would never agree to lend Jennie her dress, if she knew where was the place she's heading to.
"I could, but-" Jennie let out a sigh, "I feel like while I'm here, I should do this for her at the very least. She's one of my best friend too and I'm not going to be there for her wedding."
"Besides," Jennie continued, "she made me promised."
"... And that was how I found out she's your daughter." Joohyun finished her story. Her eyes were glassy when she met Jennie's eyes. "We... we've missed each other's life so much, Jennie-ah. You're a mother now."
Jennie pulled the older woman into her embrace, feeling guilty when she heard her sobs. "I'm so sorry, Eonnie. It was such a mess back then, with my group leaving the agency and the public watching our every moves. The only thing in my mind was how to protect my baby," she said, recalling the period of time where she was on her lowest point, alone and scared.
Jennie shuddered at that thought.
Joohyun hit her shoulders. "And you just forgot to tell me? I'm your friend too, aren't I?"
Releasing their hug, Joohyun wiped her tears. She was feeling a bit upset since Jennie left her out in the dark for ten years- and who knows how long will it continue that way if she didn't get caught by Joohyun.
"Is it that hard to give me a call? At least once a year?"
Jennie sighed. "I should have. But how would you like me to say it to you then? 'Hi, Eonnie, this is Jennie. Remember the girl from Blackpink? Your best friend? Oh in case you don't know, I got knocked up and a single mother of a little girl now.'"
Joohyun was quiet for a while, before saying, "Single mother? You mean... you're raising her alone?"
Jennie nodded, realizing her little slip. Looking at her daughter through the small glass on the door, she smiled, "Yes, and she's the best thing that ever happened in my life. Despite all the things that I went through to protect her, I'll do that over and over again if it means that I'll have her with me."
Upon hearing that, Joohyun smiled. "I've always knew that you're going to be a great mother, Jennie-ah."
"I'm not sure about that," Jennie bit her lip. "Sometimes... I don't think that I'm good enough. I mean look at her, she's so... perfect; so pure, making me afraid that I''ll never be enough for her."
