Several hundred years ago, humans found out that they weren't the only living beings in the universe.

When a race of aliens descended upon our planet, they were in search of sanctuary. Their own planet had been destroyed by an entity they had no way of overcoming. Only so many were able to make it to our planet, but they shared their knowledge of space travel, artificial intelligence, and other advances in technology. Earth became a travel destination for other aliens and cross-breeding was a thing of the past. Earth was now composed of a mixture of human DNA and several alien races. Because of the mixing of DNA, many began developing powers that aided in their everyday lives.

There were five categories in which everyone fell under: water, earth, air, fire, and spirit. Though the element of spirit was rare and many were hunted to extinction. We could never find who was killing these elementals off, but it was a systematic extermination throughout the galaxies. It was said to be believed at one point a planet had been found abandoned and taken over those of the spirit element. A place of solitude they could live in peace. However, that tale was never proven as fact.

To bring peace and harmony throughout the galaxy, an organization was formed with members from every elemental to cater to the needs of others. Whether this was for protection, infiltration, or extraction. Anything that might need to be done, this organization did it. They were called The Academy.

The Academy took in children who showed exception power and control of that power. They trained these children in combat, intelligence, defense, and other varieties of skills. Whatever would protect them whenever they eventually went out on the missions. The biggest factor of the Academy was for the children to form teams, which would act as their new families. There needed to be at least two to a team. In an ideal world, they tried to keep males together and females together, but couple teams eventually formed when the mating mark appeared on their forearms. The largest team to be formed was a nine member male team. Most teams were made up of four to five members.

Now, the Academy sent these teams on missions throughout the galaxies. Each team was provided with a space craft large enough to comfortably fit all of them, as well as to have facilities to assist them on whatever they might encounter. Escape pods, medical room, sleeping quarters, workshops, these were just a few of the things available within the ship.

There are currently two top teams within the Academy: Blackbourne and Toma. They are close, almost like they are one large family, but still complete missions separately. However, they are willing to team up if the situation calls for it. The team leaders, Owen Blackbourne and Axel Toma, are fantastic with their duties and keep the other members in line easily. Especially since Owen's team has eight other members. Each boy on the two teams specialized in something different, though they could easily complete jobs in other categories as well. These two teams were the most diverse and eager to do whatever needed to be done to have peaceful relations between all the species.

Such was the case now.

Both the Toma and Blackbourne team have set out into outer space in search of the reason for an unexpected planet to be found desolate. We don't know how long it has been in such a state, but a reading was found that an object, or person, was transmitting. The boys didn't even hesitate to take the assignment. One team would have been enough, but they insisted on going together. There might be a threat in the near vicinity and it was better to have more than too little to neutralize such a thing.

What they find in the outer reaches of space is a mystery even to us. We never thought such a thing existed. Or that it would have to be used in such a way. Such tragedy. They are too young to have to endure such heartbreak, but they are the best ones suited for this mission. It wouldn't have panned out the way it did without them.
