I started to think. I could just stop being a wimp and actually talk to the girl or I could just hope that I'll see her around. During my thinking I hear someone say that cashier nine is open. I looked behind me to see if anyone was behind me, there wasn't. So I got out of line and made my way to cashier nine.
When I got there I saw that someone had beat me to it so I just stood behind them. I saw images of that girl in my head. Damn I'd be surprised if I didn't have a dream about her tonight. The damn girl was that beautiful.

When I checked out I made my way back to the car. I was feeling and walking casual until I seen the girl and her brother loading their stuff in their car right next to my mine. Damnit! I realized that I had stopped in the middle of the street when a few cars start hunking at me. I feel my cheeks go warm as I smile apologetically at the drivers waiting for me to cross the street. When I approach my car I notice that the siblings cart was in my way of getting to my car door.
So I just stood there not saying anything until the girl noticed me.
"Oh, I'm sorry." She said, pulling the cart to the side.
"Oh no you're fine." I say as I make my way to my car door.
Wow . . . I'm proud of myself! I didn't stutter or nearly fall because my knees went weak. I open my car door and I hear something fall. I look around to see what had fell. I discover that a can had fell out of one of the bags the siblings next door were loading into the car. The can busted and all its contents were spilling out on the ground.
"No!" The girl screamed.
If I'm not mistaken I think most of the people in the parking lot stopped what they were doing to look at her. The girl smiled, embarrassed. She then slowly stuck her hand in her back pocket and pulled out her phone that was wrapped in her earbuds and plugged her music in. I smile. She's easy to embarrass. She bent down to pick up the can that had fell and the way her jeans complimented her ass was like a highlighter to a important fact in the history book.
After realizing I was staring at her ass I hear her brother say;
"I'll go get another one, just finish loading the stuff."
The girl nods as she hands her brother the busted can. He starts for the stores entrance while she loads their car. I sit my bag in my passenger seat and get in my car. I close the door and look at the girl through my rearview mirror. I saw a guy approach her.
He looked like he was in his thirties and was dressed in rags. He was dirty and had yellow teeth. In his hand he held a beat up plastic Subway cup. He grabbed his balls as he stared at the girl. She jumped when she noticed his presence. I roll down my window a little to hear their conversation.
"Hello." She said taking out her headphones.
The guys smiled.
"Can I help you?"
"Please me." The guy said as he glanced at his crotch area.
"I'm sorry." The girl said.
The guy started to check the girl out.
"You're sexy." The guy said.
"Um . . . I think it's best for you to go." The girl said.
Thankfully she didn't turn her back on him she just looked at him.
"Please me, now!" The guy yelled.
My hand headed towards my doors handle as fast as a lighting bolt. My fingers gripping the handle tightly, knuckles turning white.
"No!" The girl yelled back.
The guy grabbed her by her hair and made her fall to her knees. She screamed as he started to unzip his disgusting pants. Oh hell no! I get out the car and head towards the two. As I made my way to them the girl punched the guy in the balls.
"Ah!" The guy groaned in pain.
"She said to go!" I yell.
"Who the hell are you?" The guy asked.
"Go." I say sharply.
"No."
The girl reached in the car and grabbed a curtain rod. She looked between me and the guy.
"Mind your business, this is my ex-fiancé." The guy lied.
"How, she's only sixteen." I state, hoping that I guessed her age right.
"No she's  not, she does look young for her age doesn't she?" The guy said, getting closer to the girl.
He tried to wrap his arm around her but before he could do anything she clocked him in the head with the curtain rod. He fell to the ground unconscious. Ho-ly shit, girls got game, I think I'm in love with this girl. I look at the girl.
"You okay?" I asked.
Her jeans now have an extra rip in them and are dirty.
"Yeah, I think so." She replied.
"Good." I said.
"Thank you . . ."
I could tell she was asking for my name because she was scanning me like I was a waiter at a restaurant.
"Alex." I say.
"Alex, thank you Alex." She said.
I smile.
"My name is Karina."
Karina, a pretty name fit for a beautiful girl.
"Nice to meet you Karina." I said. "Are you from here?"
I just had to ask.
"No, I just moved here yesterday with my Mom and brother." Karina said.
"Oh that's cool."
"I guess." She said.
"Why 'I guess'?"
"We didn't move here because of choice . . . we moved here because of my abusive ex-boyfriend." Karina said.
How could anyone hurt this princess? Who in their right mind had the guts to hurt her? It makes me want to beat the shit out of the guy and hug her until she dies and that's saying something because I've never wanted to treat a girl like this (other than my sister but not in a 'I'm in love with her' type of way).
"Wh-wh-whaatt—I'm sorry, wha-"
Karina chuckles at my stuttering and tucks a lock of hair behind her ear.
"What made him abusive?" She asked.
I nod, my saliva thick and too hard to swallow.
Karina shrugs.
"One day I was at the park and saw him making out with a girl on the slide so I broke up with and then he started watching me sleep in the middle of the night and would threaten to kill me if I didn't get back together with him." Karina explains. "Then one morning I woke up to this."
She raised the sleeves on her blue flannel up and I saw a few cuts on her wrist and a huge bruise on her forearm. It made me want to cry.
"It turns out one day at school he dropped some type of liquid in my water bottle, I didn't know and drank some of it before I went to bed." Karina said. "It put me in a deep sleep and he snuck in my room to cut me."
"And the bruise?" I asked, my voice low.
"He forced me to go into the boys locker room and we started arguing and he threw me against the wall like I was an old toy."
Tears came to Karinas eyes. I was lost for words.
"I'm sorry." I said.
"For what?"
"Him."
"Who are you?" A male voice said. "And why is that man knocked out on the ground?"
I turn around and saw Karinas brother.
"Alex, this is my older brother, Kevin." Karina said. "Kevin, Alex."
Kevin looked at me and I smiled at him. I held my hand out for him to shake but he just stared at it and looked at his sister.
"Why are you talking to him?" Kevin asked.
"He helped me." Karina said.
"I wouldn't say-"
"Anything? That's a great idea." Kevin said.
Jerk.
"No this man was about to rape me so he helped me defend myself."
Kevin glances between his sister and I.
"Is this true?" He asked eyeing me.
I nod.
"Well thank you, now go." Kevin said.
"Kevin!"
"It's okay, I'll go." I say, slowly walking backwards.
"Well it was nice meeting you." Karina said, her voice pure.
"You too."
When I got in the car I see Kevin talking to Karina. He looked furious as he talked to his sister. I hope I didn't get her in trouble and I hope that I get to see her more often.

When I entered my home I got bombarded by Molly and Dad.
"You're home!" Molly screamed as she ran up to me.
I picked her up and hugged her.
Dad came rushing to me his hair blown all out of proportion and his shirt half buttoned.
"Did you get the cheese?" Dad asked, out of breath.
"Yeah." I say staring at the bullets rolling down his forehead.
Dad looked behind me as I stood frozen with Molly in my arms. She didn't move either.
"Well where is it?!" Dad asked.
Did he not see the bag in my hand? He was acting like he was about to get some tonight and had ran out of condoms. I put Molly down or at least tried to but she wouldn't let go of me, her tiny little nails started to dig in my skin, hurting my shoulders.
"No!" She said.
"Hold on I'll pick you up again." I say as I bent down.
She was hanging from me like a monkey on a tree branch.
"No." She said again.
"Please." I say.
Molly sighed and let go of me. I then hand the bag to Dad and he snatched it from me. He looked in the bag, grabbed the cheese and handed the bag back to me. Dad then walked back into the kitchen. I looked down to see if Molly was standing next to me but she wasn't.
I look in the living room and saw that she was on the floor playing with her new fairy doll. I smile as I watch her. Mom then walked out of the hall with a towel in her hand, drying them. She must've just came out the restroom because I heard the toilet filling up.
"Oh, hey son, how was your day?" Mom asked.
"It was good."
"That's good, what happened at school, is everything okay do you need help with a class?" She asked without taking a breath.
"Uh . . ." I say.
Should I tell her the truth or lie? I mean I really didn't feel comfortable about helping a teacher with her love life. How would Mom take it if I told her the truth. Mom gasped.
"Are you failing a class?" She asked.
What!?
"Because if you are-"
"I'm not failing a class!" I correct.
"Oh is one of your grades low?"
I sigh and decide and decided to tell Mom the truth. She was taken aback when I told her, lost for words.
"Mom . . . are you okay?" I asked.
"Y-yeah I'm fine, it's just . . ."
"Weird?" I asked.
"Uh-uh." Mom said as she took ahold of the chair that was next to her.
"Honey I need your assistance!" Dad called from the kitchen.
"I will . . . um . . ." She took a breath that was really needed. "I will . . . talk to you about this . . . later."
Mom swallowed hard and headed for the kitchen. Okay not what I expected but it could've been worst.
