After breakfast I grab my keys and lock up the house since I was the last one to leave. I hop in my car and turn on the AC because goddamn it it was hot in this bitch! I sit there for a while allowing the cool air to slap me in the face. Once the steering wheel was cooled off I begin my journey to the nearest park, Ladols Park. It's like a three minute drive to the park and when I get there I spot Rodgers with three kids.
What the fuck?! Rodgers has kids? Well it's shouldn't be too surprising considering I am talking about Rodgers. I parked the car and get out. As I make my way towards Rodgers he saw me and waves at me with a huge grin on his face.
"Hey man, what's up?" Rodgers said.
I look at the baby in his arms. He was laying on Rodgers chest sucking on his pacifier.
"Is he yours?" I asked.
"Oh yeah, turns out that one of the chicks I hooked up with got pregnant and she had him and the others." Rodgers said.
I was confused. The others . . . there are three kids in total.
"Wait hold up, so you hooked up with one girl three times?" I asked.
"Yep." Rodgers said with a smile as he started bouncing.
Now that is surprising, Rodgers never hooked up with a girl more than once. Once he had fucked a girl he often threw her to the side. I'm confused though. Is this really Rodgers? Rodgers laughs a little.
"I'm kidding." Rodgers said.
He then trails off and says 'hopefully'. Okay, he has cleared up some questions but others were still in my head.
"Well then who's kids are these?" I asked slowly.
I gestured towards the kids on the playground and the baby boy in his arms.
"My older brother came over to visit and surprised my Mom with this little guy." Rodgers said. "So I took today off from school to hang out with my niece and nephews."
Lucky. I forgot Rodgers had an older brother who moved to Virginia and had kids with some professional . . . nerd. Thank goodness they look like him rather than the mother.
"Believe me I wouldn't be standing here with out a couple of scars given to me by my Madre if I had got a girl pregnant three times." Rodgers said, watching his niece play with another little girl in the sand.
"How old are they?" I asked.
"This one here is about five months." He said looking at the boy in his arms. "The other boy is seven and the girl is five."
Nice.
"Names?"
"Tyler, Xavier, and Sofia."
Huh. Sofia gets up out of the sand and runs towards us.
"Tío can I go play in the tree with that girl over there?" She asked.
"Sure but I want you to meet someone first." Rodgers said.
He gestured towards me.
"This is my best friend Alex, Alex, Sofia."
"Hola mucho gusto Alex."
I looked at the girl confused.
"Sorry she loves to talk in Spanish." Rodgers said. "El no habla Español."
Sofia turned to me.
"Lo siento Alex." Sofia said. "I said I'm sorry Alex and I also said hello nice to meet you Alex."
I smile at the girl.
"Nice to meet you too." I said.
"Now can I go play in the tree?"
"Go ahead."
Sofia ran towards the girl and the two girls ran towards the biggest tree in the park.
"Did you ever pay attention in Spanish class?" Rodgers asked.
"Well I haven't taken Spanish yet so . . ."
"You better or you won't be able to-"
"I know." I interrupt. "I'll take it next year."
"Okay bro, whatever you say." Rodgers said.
"How long is your brother staying?" I asked.
"About two days." Rodgers replies.
Xavier is over by the flowers picking a few of them. He walked over to where a little girl about his age was and handed the flowers to her. I smile, he is Rodgers nephew.
"Hey!" Rodgers shouts. "No flirting!"
Xavier looked at Rodgers and smiled. The girl took the flowers from him and ran off shyly.
"Does that rule apply to you as well?" I asked.
"Shut up!" He said.
I noticed he's been watching his profanity since he is around kids. Tyler started squirming in Rodgers arms.
"What's wrong little dude?" Rodgers asked.
Tyler points at his bottle on the table behind us.
"What you hungry?"
Tyler nods while rubbing his eye. He had nice light green eyes.
"His mother must have green eyes." I say as Rodgers sits down at the table.
I sit next to him as he gives Tyler his bottle. Tyler kind of snatches it and begins to drink out of it. Damn he's a feisty little boy.
"Nah, I don't know where he got his green eyes from." Rodgers said. "Mother said that our Abuela had green eyes and her Abuela had green eyes so we don't know . . . he could've gotten then from his great grandmother."
"How did you and your siblings end up with brown eyes?"
"Mi Padre." Rodgers replies.
I did not know what he said and it must've shown through my face because Rodgers then translates what he says to English.
"The old man has brown eyes?" I asked.
"Yeah, you've never noticed?"
"Your father is too intimidating to look at in the eye so I just usually look at my feet when I am within his presence." I explain.
Rodgers laughs.
"That's the same thing Emily does." He said.
"Who's Emily?" I asked.
"My brothers girl."
Oh . . . I felt pretty stupid for asking that question.
"Oh . . . right." I say.
Rodgers started bouncing his leg rapidly and I started to have concerns.
"You alright bro?" I asked.
"No, I have to use the restroom." Rodgers said.
Before I could react to his response he said;
"Here hold him and I'll be right back!"
He handed me Tyler and ran to the restroom that was a few yards away. Tyler was still drinking his milk as he looked at me. We both were confused, because whatever just happened happened so fast. Tyler then smiles and reaches for my nose. I close my eyes and he tugs on it.
I remember Molly doing this when she was a baby, why do all babies like to pull on my nose? I then notice a group of hotties coming my way. Well . . . minus their gay friend. The boy and one of the girls were looking at me. I smile as I sat Tyler down on my lap.
I wave at them and the girl giggles and turns to her friends. She started talking to and pointing at me. She brought her friends attention to me. That's when the entire group of girls looked at me at the same time. They all giggle and make their way towards me.
I shift on the bench a little and look forward, trying to look casual.
"Hey!" One of the girls said as the group approached me.
Tyler side eyed the group but was still sucking on his bottle. He then looks up at me and then looks at the playground.
"Hey." I say.
"Is he yours?" Another girl asked, pointing at Tyler.
I look down at the little guy and look back up at the hottie.
"Uh, no he's-"
"Oh well hello there!" Rodgers said as he approached me.
He maneuvers his way through the group of girls and sits down next to me. Tyler makes some sort of . . . excited sound and started to reach for his uncle. I give him to his uncle and return my attention to the ladies.
"Oh, so he's yours?"
Rodgers looks up at the girl.
"No, he's my nephew." Rodgers said.
"Oh well you're a good uncle." The gay boy swooned as he sat down on the bench on the other side of the table.
We look at him (including Tyler). Tyler bursts out in laughter. Rodgers tried to tickle Tyler and he threw his bottle down on the ground.
"Ay!" Rodgers yelled.
Tyler's smile disappears as he looks at Rodgers. Both staring at each other for a long moment and then Tyler bursts out in laughter again. I smile because Tyler is adorable.
"I'll get it." Said another girl.
She walks over to where the bottle landed and picked it up. She walks back over to us and hands the bottle to Rodgers. Tyler tried to reach for it but Rodger didn't give him his bottle. Tyler started to whine. Then Rodgers reaches into Tyler's diaper bag and grabbed out a baby toy.
He handed it to Tyler and Tyler's whining stopped. Tyler looked at the toy, observing it for a long moment. He then started playing with it. The girls giggled.
"Isn't he adorable?" They said.
The group then started talking to each other while I enjoyed their company, not that I can't get any girl I want to fall at my feet at any time or that I'm lonely all the time.
"My name is Lola!" A girl said.
She had pretty green eyes and light brown hair that was slicked back into a ponytail with a single neon green streak. It was cute. I realize she was talking to me and had her hand out towards me. I close my eyes for a second to focus again. When I open my eyes again I take her hand and shake it.
"I'm Alex." I said.
"Nice to meet you Alex." Lola said.
"Nice to meet you."
It's hard not to stare at this girl. Lola just smiled at me.
"Hey do you have Snapchat or Instagram so we could maybe I don't know . . . talk?" Lola asked.
I pull out my phone and unlock it. That's when I saw what time it was. Shit! If I don't leave now I'm going to be late for school.
"How about this." I said in almost a rush. "I'll give you my number."
"Okay." Lola said as I stood up.
She pull out her phone and handed it to me. I try to get into her phone but I couldn't it was locked.
"I can't um . . ." I hand her back her phone.
"Oh, right!" She said taking her phone back.
She unlocked her phone and gave it back to me. I quickly type my number into her phone and give it back to her. She repeated the number to me aloud and I realize that the last digit she said was eight instead of seven.
"Wait, zero three eight?" I ask.
Lola nods and looks down at her screen.
"That's what it says here." She said.
I take her phone from her and read the numbers I had put in her phone and she was right, there was an eight as the last digit instead of a seven. So I correct the error and start to walk off.
"I uh, gotta go but text me!" I say as I walk backwards.
"Ay, where you going man?" Rodgers asked.
"To school." I reply.
"Loser!" Rodgers yelled.
"Shut up!" I say before turning around and walking the right way.
When I get to my car I see Sofia in my windshield. Is she in my car? I look inside my car and didn't see anyone. I hear the sound of tree leaves brushing against each other. I look up and see the girl hanging upside down like a monkey. She was looking dead at me.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
"I have to go to school." I reply.
"Oh." She said.
I unlock my door and is positive that she is watching me. When I open my door to get in Sofia plops down off the tree onto the ground.
"Schools boring." She said.
"I know." I say.
I get in my car.
"So why are you going?" She asked.
"Because I have to."
"Says who?" Sofia asked, looking around.
She is a relative to Rodgers because her attitude about school is just as bad as her uncles, it really is surprising that she isn't his daughter of his brothers.
"My mom, my future." I reply.
Sofia looks confused.
"Your future?" Sofia asked.
I nod.
"Your future isn't a human being which means it can't talk." Sofia said.
Well there is one thing about Sofia. She is a girl. I remember the girls in kindergarten had the same attitude.
"Well then my Mom and Dad said that I have to go to school."
Sofia studies me hard.
"I don't believe you." She said her hands on her hips.
How is this girl five?!
I open my mouth to speak again but Rodgers has called Sofia. She looked back at him and he beckons for her. She nods and turns back to me.
"Well have a good day in prison, see you later." Sofia said.
"Bye." I say.
"Bye!" She said running back to where her uncle was.
I watch her until gets to Rodgers and once she was where he was I close my car door, start the engine, and take off.
