So I decided to rant about cliché moments in stories, whether that be in fanfics or original stories.

We all know that most of these stories aren't real anyway, and that not a lot of the stuff that occurs in stories is likely to happen anyway. That's fine, because we know that a car crash isn't very likely to happen, and while it does occur in everyday life, it's not hugely likely.

But some stories are so incredibly unlikely or ridiculous, and it's really been getting on my nerves.

So here are some examples:

1) A famous boyband (for nexample, 1D or 5SOS) adopting a child.

This one really gets on my nerves, because it really is unlikely that a famous boyband who go on tour a lot will adopt a teenage girl. These boys are pretty much still teenagers, and even if they are legal adults, they're still learning to be adults; they still act like teenagers.

Besides, if they were going to adopt someone, surely:

a) It would be with their girlfriend/fiance/wife and not the band?

b) They would adopt a young child, not a teenager who is nearly as old as them?

Also, why is it always a teenage girl? Why isn't it ever a teenage boy?

And don't get me started on the fact that the girl falls in love with one of the boys. If they are adopting the girl as a band, surely that would be incest?

2) A story where the girl falls in love with her bully. (Warning: may be triggering)

These stories do sometimes have exceptions, depending on who writes them. For example, if the story is really well written (for example, like Bullied by Luke Hemmings by NiallHoransPerfect), and they sound realistic, then that is okay. Now onto the rant:

Personally, if someone bullies me - physically or emotionally, I don't like them. I loathe them. I will never, ever like them. So when people write stories about how they fall in love with their bully, the person who breaks their ribs or arms or legs or just punches them for fun, I really do not understand how they can somehow transform the story into a romance. Because the main character is getting hurt by this person, and she'll suddenly wake up and think, 'well, I'm sure it was an accident'.

Bullying is not okay, and the main character must be a little bit dopey if she doesn't tell a teacher or her parents that someone is breaking her arms for fun. I mean, be realistic. If someone was bullying you and was breaking your arms and legs and ribs, how would a parent or tecaher not know? I'm pretty sure if you were in that situation, you would tell the teacher.

The same thing occurs with rape; people are not going to fall in love with someone who forced them to have sex with them. Rape is an emotionally scarring issue and people who rape someone face prison.

3) The girl looks like a supermodel and is insecure

This really annoys me. The main character has flawless skin, perfectly straight hair and a perfect body, is really popular and dresses like she's just come off the runway and has major insecurities.

She is practically a Victoria's Secret model. How can she have insecurities?

'Oh, well, I think my hair is one shade too dark' Who cares?

'Oh, well, I have terrible acne' No you don't, you have flawless skin.

Why does the main character always have blonde hair too? I get that some people in real life like me do have blonde hair, but people also have brown, ginger, black and other colour hair and are still attractive.

If you are going to give the main character insecurities, at least make her have something realistic to be insecure about. For example:

• A medical condition; e.g. anxiety, asmtha, etc.

• Her weight; perhaps she's not considered thin by her peers.

• Her height; perhaps she's really short, or really tall and gets bullied for that.

• Perhaps she wears glasses or has braces.

• Perhaps she's from a different country and has a funny accent.

All of these things and more could give the main character insecurities, plus they make a story more original. Don't limit the characters to perfect barbie dolls.

I may add a second part to this.

By guys, love you ♥
