Sophie was running. Running from the voices of her past. Voices that tormented her dreams for years. "You can't run anymore Sophie!" Lady Gisela called, her voice igniting terrifying memories within Sophie. Umber emerged from the darkness, as Fitz appeared next to Sophie. Umber cackled as shadowflux poured out her fingers enveloping them in the darkness. Fitz fell to the ground, someone else she couldn't save. Fitz, the boy she loved like a brother. Her cognate. Her first friend.

Fitz disappeared and ahead she spotted her adoptive parents surrounded by tall flames of everblaze. The sticky sweet-smelling smoke burned her lungs as she called out to her parents, but in vain, as Vespera held her in a firm choke-hold covering Sophie's screams.

"What will the little Moonlark do now?" Vespera taunted her voice icy and cold. A massive fireball hurled towards them, and Sophie swerved right, the fire missing her by inches, the searing heat nearly melting her skin. Everything turned to ash and surrounded Sophie. It swirled away to reveal a new scene.

She watched as the first Forkle twin was impaled as Grethen stabbed him with the wretched sword. She yelled out for him, but fell backwards into a dark abyss and watched as she found Biana who fell beside her in a pile of broken glass and slowly her blood pooled around her. Sophie reached out, but was pulled back by some sort of invisible force, as she watched the scene fade, and Dex appeared next to her and suddenly his beautiful eyes turned cold and emotionless, and Sophie tried to back away as he leapt towards her with the torturous ability restrictor. She closed her eyes and held her breath. But when she dared to peek she found everything had faded away to smoke that curled around her. It faded away to reveal Tam and Linh, but they weren't moving. She took a heavy breath and moved closer, falling to her knees when she realized that they were...gone. Dead. She cried out, and nearly fell apart.

The scene changed one last time, this time showing the end of the last battle with Neverseen, but it was a bittersweet victory because Keefe was barely clinging onto life beside her. She put his hand close to her heart, feeling his pulse fade away, and even though Jensi zapped him, this time Keefe wasn't saved. His heart stopped and Sophie's broke.

"No. No! Keefe! Please come back!" She shrieked, and suddenly she was jolted awake.
