Chapter 5-Sophie (Part 2)

Sandor, Sophie, and Keefe arrived at the city a few minutes before the council meeting. Keefe quickly tucked their pathfinder away in his cape as Sophie tugged out an itchy eyelash.

"Is it just me, or is this place double glittery?" Ro asked, her face scrunching with disgust.

"Nope just you.", Keefe said with his signature smirk plastered in his face.

Ro's comment though made Sophie look around at the sparkling city, a city that still amazed her by the sheer wealth of the elves-even after living with them for years. She still couldn't believe how long it had been, as she walked to the Seat of Eminence. It was one of the largest buildings in Eternalia, and she noticed many heads turn towards them on the way there. A few people even waved at her and her entourage. Her cheeks started to switch to a bright tomato color as she shyly waved back. Keefe however, smiled at the other elves and waved back with enthusiasm.

Sophie sighed with relief as soon as the large crystal doors closed behind her, finally pulling them away from the crowds. Well, at least until she noticed that everyone inside was now staring in her direction too. She searched for a familiar face in the craziness of it all. Soon finding Biana, Dex, Lovise, and Wolitzer standing in the corner. Biana waved them over and gave Sophie a big hug while Dex shook Keefe's hand.

"Hey guys!" Biana said cheerfully.

"How are you?" Sophie asked, smiling.

"Great!", Biana said, "Though someone had trouble getting out of bed this morning." She added, arching an eyebrow playfully at Dex, who shrugged.

Keefe laughed, "Now that you're awake we can do some serious pranks around here. Plus, Ro's here too." He smirked, but it quickly disappeared when he noticed Sophie's stern look.

"No pranks. All of you.", Biana chided.

The friends kept talking as Stina, Wylie, Maruca, Jensi and Bex, Fitz and Linh, and Tam and Marella walked in.

Soon the time came to meet the council. Everyone entered a room with the twelve thrones of the council at the front on a high platform, and chairs for Sophie and her friends to sit in front of the council. They settled in and Sophie couldn't help but feeling nervous.

The wide doors on the platform opened and the councillor's bodyguards came out and stationed themselves behind the thrones, looking...stressed? Maybe it was just Sophie's paranoia, but there was something off about the mood of the whole room. As the councilors came out to the hall, Sophie intently studied their worried faces, as she tugged out an itchy eyelash. Keefe must've noticed how anxious she looked and reached for her hand, giving it a tight squeeze. Sophie squeezed his hand back, but she could feel him trembling.

When all of the councilors had taken their respective seats, Emery rose and walked to the front of the stage, looking...haggard? His usually immaculate cape and jerkin were wrinkled, and large dark circles looked like bruises under his sapphire blue eyes. In fact, the entire council looked much like him, as if they'd all been working all night. Maybe they had.

"Thank you for coming to meet us this morning.", Emery said as he looked down upon Sophie and her friends. "The reason we brought you all here today, is because we believe that it is time to reconstruct Team Valiant." Emery took a deep breath as he continued, "Our world has been at peace for 18 years now, but there is something dark upon us. Last night two teenagers went missing near the sanctuary on a star bottling assignment, and the children never returned." Sophie's whole body went numb as Emery continued. "When we went to the site to investigate we found a small piece of a registry pendant, which shows it must have been snapped off. The most disturbing thing was this:", Emery pulled out a small piece of paper from his pocket, and turned it around for the audience to see. Everyone fell silent when they saw the terrifying message written in handwriting they wished they hadn't recognized. Next to Lady Gisela's handwriting was the symbol. The Eye of the Neverseen.
