Chapter 04: Sept

A heavy wooden door creaked open slowly as a small child waddled purposefully into a dimly lit bedroom. He paced himself around the piles of mess on the ground, almost tripping over a skipping rope and a few building blocks. Rustling of sheets could be heard as he propped himself up onto the short plump bed in the far right corner.
"Sap!"
A young, black-haired individual stirred from under the blanket. Although her eyes were shut, she could tell it was morning. To her irritation, she tossed, ignoring the tiny being shaking her with all his might.
"Sap! Wake up!"
"Give me an hour..."
"Sapie!"
"Please..."
The little boy crossed his arms and huffed. His face scrunched up with uncertainty. His elder sister said 'please'. What should he do if she was being polite? Should he just let her sleep?
The young lady peeled her eyelids open slightly as she peered at him from behind her blanket. She chuckled when she saw the sour look on her little brother's face.
"Okay, okay, I'm up," she yawned, sitting upright.
"Yay!" He clutched onto her index finger and hopped off the bed. "Come! I wanna eat brekkie now."
Sliding out of bed, she moved her hand to wrap onto her brother's gently. This was somewhat her everyday routine. Ever since that one day when she woke up late for school, her mother had her younger brother wake her up everyday. Let it be known that she also never made it to school that one fateful day.
He led her towards the door while her eyes darted around her cramped room. She should really try to find time to clean her brother's toys from the ground, otherwise she would never have space to do her assignments and hobbies in her own room. Her eyes landed on the antique clock hanging next to her white wardrobe. Maybe she should take a shower first.
"Asher, I'll need to use the bathroom," she explained, squatting down to be at his eye level. "You can tell Mom that I'll be down in ten, okay?"
"Okay!" he exclaimed. "Don't sleep again, Sap."
She looked away, guilty. "I won't."

A loud knocking could be heard as the sleepy lass sifted through her packed closet.
"Sapphire, are you awake?"
Struggling to pull her jeans up, Sapphire bounced over to her door, unlocking it. She somehow managed to zip and button her high-waisted jeans at the last second as a middle aged woman with a flowery pink apron came flying in like a jet.
Sapphire raised an eyebrow, tucking her blouse in. "What happened?"
Her mother stared at her and placed her hands close to her chest, heaving a sigh of relief. "Asher said you'd be down at ten. So I thought you slept in again."
"Huh?" Sapphire turned to her, startled. Asher must have misunderstood her words.
"Never mind," her mother chuckled. "Come down, I've already finished preparing breakfast. We're having fried eggs and sausages today."
Trailing after her mother, Sapphire trotted down the stairs with a spring in her step. Once they reached the kitchen, Asher ran up to her as she had expected. He waved his fork around, dropping bits of sausages and eggs onto the creamily tiled flooring.
