"Hey Sapphire!"

Flipping a page of her book, she pretended not to hear the shrill voice.

"Let's go get some bingsu at the mall today," a pair of hands, with pearly pink matted fingernails, rested on her table as a couple of figures entered her view.

Closing her book and placing it in her bag, Sapphire looked up wearily. Those hands belonged to one of her classmates, whose name she had long forgotten since freshman year. She wore a short plaid pink tennis skirt and an off-white long sleeved crop top with it. Surrounding her were three other classmates. One of which she knew well. Or so she thought a while back.

"Ahh, sorry," Sapphire started saying, taking a glimpse at the time as her eyes flitted around the empty classroom. She was too engrossed with her book, while not listening to the toneless lectures of her math teacher, to notice that school was already over. "I have some stuff to do after this."

The blonde guy in the group bowed down to her eye level with his nostalgic signature smile. "My treat."

Sapphire averted her gaze from his grey eyes.

Quentin.

How could she ever forget? They met during orientation when they were freshmen. She had accidentally taken his phone after an ice-breaker, only realising later it wasn't hers. The two quickly became friends during the frenetic first week where they conversed via each other's handphones, before being able to exchange them back.

However, a semester and a half in, he started dating someone. To her surprise, it was someone he never talked about before or even conversed with in the hallways. They never even spared a look at one another before they started going out. Nonetheless, their conversations only grew lesser and lesser as the distance between them grew wider and wider.

"She already said she doesn't want to," that someone snorted. Her bare arms crossed and her chest puffed out in disdain. Although Sapphire mutually disliked her, she couldn't bring herself to ignore her great sense of fashion. A cute salmon pink sundress paired with a denim jacket.

"Shh Valerie!" The last one hushed, dragging her away. "You're gonna ruin our chances of meeting Dominic and Conrad!"

I can hear you, y'know?

"Don't mind her," Quentin babbled, sounding a little nervous. "We haven't talked in a long time. We can catch up while we hang."

Uhhuh.

By a long time, he must mean the whole semester between freshman year and sophomore year. The period when he was dating Valerie till now. Oh, and if he was talking to her, the rumours must be true then. Rumours that said that they weren't together now.

"Yeah!" the pink one chirped. "A little shaved ice is nothing more than a gift on this humid day."

The only gift they needed was a cleansing for their souls.

Sapphire shook her head, forcing a smile on her lips. "Thank you but I really have something on later to—" she jumped up abruptly midway, stumbling over her own chair.

A blur of black shot by, just in time to break her fall.

"You're really accident prone, aren't you?" Dominic joked.
